Alternative Uses
Packing material◦ Use in small packages in place of environmentally
unfriendly Styrofoam peanuts◦ $$ savings: if the stale bread would have been
thrown away anyway, why not use it in an untraditional manner?
◦ Advise package recipient to open package immediately upon receipt to lessen chances of mold
◦ Package recipient can then use the bread in a traditional way: bird feeder

Step 1: assemble packing materials
Step 2: wrap item to be sent in plastic
Step 3: line bottom of box w/bread
Step 4: place item to be shipped in box
Step 5: cover item to be shipped w/bread
Step 6: slightly overfill box w/bread
Step 7: cut tape to desired length
Step 7: close shipping box lids
Step 8: apply tape and postage…then send!

freeze warnings◦ Bread can be fresh or stale◦ Use for limited time periods of below-freezing
temperatures◦ Once freeze warning has passed, use bread in
bird feeders

Step 1: assemble insulating materials
Step 2: tear bread into small pieces
Step 3: pieces should be marble-size
Step 4: cut top and bottom from milk carton
Step 5: surround plant w/milk carton
Step 6: gently fill milk carton /bread pieces
Step 7: fill milk carton so plant is fully covered
Step 8: after freeze warning ends, remove carton gently
Step 9: repurpose bread for use in bird feeder

Valuables are easily spotted

Step 1: Slice through bottom of loaf
Step 2: Remove interior, leaving thick shell of bread
Note the depth
