Symposium Highlights
Clinical Program:A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO INDIVIDUALIZED PATIENT CARE
Goal
A multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of patients diagnosed with
cancer has been the key for delivering high quality care. A tsunami created by
rapidly expanding knowledge in tumor molecular biology and immunology,
moreover, new molecular approaches have enabled the development
of therapeutics that target specific oncogenic mutations and immune
checkpoints. This constant evolution has maintained a dynamic relationship
with the disciplines - surgery, radiation therapy and medical oncology-
modulating the approach to provide individualized patient care. The advances
and emerging data is much needed in community settings in order to deliver
quality care and to improve patient outcomes.
Educational Objectives
After attending the symposium, participants should be able to
• Provide a multidisciplinary approach
in the management of melanoma
patients (Knowledge, Competence);
• Implement new practice changes
in breast cancer treatment involving
fields that will positively influence
patient outcomes in terms of
quality of life and survival
(Knowledge, Competence,
Performance, Patient Outcomes);
• Select the best strategies in the
surgical management of gynecologic
malignancies to enhance post-op
recovery, reduce morbidity and
lead to better quality of life and
outcomes (Knowledge, Competence,
Performance, Patient Outcomes);
• Select the most appropriate
gastrointestinal treatment option/
modality (Knowledge, Competence);
• Utilize new management methods for
genitourinary cancers (Knowledge,
Competence, Performance);
• Utilize a multidisciplinary approach
and targeted treatment strategies
in the management of thyroid
cancer (Knowledge, Competence,
Performance);
• Understand molecular biology and
immunology of brain metastases to
utilize the most effective systemic
treatments, targeted therapies,
checkpoint inhibitors, neurosurgical
procedures and radiation (Knowledge);
• Assess treatment guidelines, goals,
monitoring tools and treatment
approaches in care of hematologic
malignancies (Knowledge,
Competence);
• Select patients and identify the
appropriate class of agents in the
treatment of metastatic NSCLC and
select local modalities of treatment
for oligometastatic disease
(Knowledge, Competence);
• Appreciate the role of salvage surgery
in the management of esophageal
cancer (Knowledge);
• Appreciate the future status of CAR
NK Cells, liquid biopsies, microbiome
and emerging actionable mutations.
(Knowledge).
Target Audience
This symposium will be beneficial to
Medical Oncologists, Surgical Oncologists,
Radiation Oncologists, General Surgeons,
Internists, Researchers, Physician
Assistants, Oncology Nurses and
Advanced Practice Nurses.
Educational Methods
Lecture/Didactic – Case Study – Audience

Sessions – Panel Discussion
Evaluation
A course evaluation survey will provide
participants with the opportunity to
comment on the value of the program
content to their practice decisions,
performance improvement activities,
or possible impact on patient health
status. Participants will also have
the opportunity to comment on any
perceived commercial bias in the
presentations as well as to identify future
educational topics.
Accreditation / Credit Designation

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Individualized Patient Care
Nursing Excellence:NAVIGATING THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF ONCOLOGY NURSING
Goal
The Nursing Excellence program focuses on current clinical topics across the
continuum of oncology care. After attending this educational activity, the
registered nurse will self-report an understanding of patient navigation practices
in oncology, principles of cancer genetics and appropriate risk assessment,
administration and management of immunotherapy and biosimilars, best practices
in cancer care, ethical considerations in oncology, oncologic emergencies
management, updates in head and neck cancer treatment, and the use of
integrative medicine in oncology. The program will provide an opportunity to
collaborate with MD Anderson Cancer Network and national colleagues and the
potential to earn up to 13.75 nursing contact hours.
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is an approved provider with
commendation of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association
– Approver, an accredited approver with distinction, by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Nurses may earn up to 13.75 contact hours for both days.
