Electronic communication
• Staff will reply to emails and MOLE posts in good time; in general within 2 working days
• Please do not expect replies to emails over the weekend
• Check your university e-mail account at least once a day
• Tweeting, texting, emailing, etc. are not permitted during lectures and seminars • unless of course the lecturer has explicitly asked you
to partake in one of these activities!

Fixing your timetable • The university year = two semesters
• Module = course in a specific subject
• Credits = value of each course for the overall degree
• Normally each semester you will complete modules worth a total of 60 credits

Different Kinds of Modules
• Core modules: you have to do all of these
• Restricted modules: you have to do some of these – Dual degree students only
• Optional modules in English
• Optional modules in other subjects = ‘unrestricted’

You can also choose to take modules from outside the School of English… ‘unrestricted’… go to the ‘unrestricted module choice’
If you do not want to take these modules, you can choose to take modules from elsewhere in the English department… Prose, Poetry, Literary Theory, Theatre, Cinema… go to the ‘module choice mop-up’
Unrestricted modules, for example:
• Introduction to Communication
• Ethics and Myths from the Ancient World
• The World of French Words
• Japanese Language
• Interdisciplinary Research in Practice
• Evening modules with the Department for Lifelong Learning, e.g. Ideas That Changed the World

Module Enrolment
• Check the sticker on your yellow form
• If you lack/want more English modules, attend the ‘Module Choice mop up’ session:
Today 1-3pm in Jessop West Seminar Room 8
• Enrol for other ‘unrestricted’ modules in the Octagon Centre on Wednesday:
Wednesday 23rd September 8:30-9:30am *Take your yellow form
• Then everyone must go to Student Registration in the Goodwin Sports Centre, straight afterwards:
Wednesday 23rd September 9:30am *Take your completed yellow form
