Archiving Project

In June, Carolyn Cox, Kathy Sasowsky and Martha Vye began working to inventory,

organize, and document the Women’s Club materials that are stored in the UA Archives in

the Polsky Building. Our records are mainly minutes, newsletters, directories, albums and

scrapbooks.

You can help us by supplying any of the missing directories you may have. All are missing

before 1959. Also missing are these: 1960-61-62; 1968-69-70; 1970-71-72; and 2001-02.

If you have any of these directories or any other historical documents that we should keep,

please give them to any of the ladies listed above or someone on the Board. Our records

will remain in Archives for safekeeping.

Martha Vye is also requesting updates for our 2015-2016 Directory. Please contact her

with any changes. Martha Vye, Chair of Special Activities/Historian (330) 644-7490 or

New Class of Membership—

Sponsored Member

For several years now, we have had women who participated in

our Special Activities but were not associated with The University

of Akron. In order to make these people “official” and give them

the opportunity to attend all UAWC events, the Board of Directors

decided last year to add another class of membership.

As stated in our revised Bylaws, approved last spring, “Females

who share an interest in UAWC activities and are sponsored by

an Active or Associate member of the UAWC shall be eligible for

Sponsored membership.” Sponsored members pay one-half the

dues paid by Active members and do not count toward a quorum,

do not vote, make motions or hold any UAWC office.

Here are our sponsored members to date: Elise Bennett, Beverly

Cinovec, Marilyn Kirk, Linda Littler, Jeannette Ritzman, Eileen

Simon, and Sue Yoder. Welcome ladies!

Spring General Meeting

The Spring General Meeting was held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the historical Hower House. Members in attendance enjoyed

the program featuring keynote speaker, Joshua Gippin who shared his experience in producing the documentary, “God as we under-

stand him,” based on the Alcoholic Anonymous 12-step movement founded in Akron, Ohio.

Officers of the board provided updates during the general business meeting. Topics included review and approval of the Fall General

Meeting minutes (November 20, 2014); current financial statement indicated a balance of $2,956.27; the April Newsletter to include

information on the spring fundraiser scheduled for May 3, 2015, as well as the spring salad luncheon; amendments to the UAWC by-

laws were presented and motioned for approval; board nominees were presented and approved for 2015-16; Betty Seiberling and

Jackie Fay presented a framed photo and poem fundraising idea; and Carol Bowes, Laura Monroe, Peggy Walchalk, and Anais Webb

were winning recipients of the centerpieces.

Special thanks were given to Diana Kunze, Program Chair, and Diane Wolfe for serving as hostess at the event. Special thanks were

also provided to all of the board members for their service during the 2014-15 academic year.
