INS IDE THIS ISSUE

The contract sets your wages, benefits and working conditions for the next three years. If these issues are important to you then you need to attend this meeting.

United We Bargain, Divided We Beg!

This Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 10:00 am, your IAM Negotiating Committee will conduct the contract proposals ratifi-cation meeting at the Windsor Locks High School.

If you want a better contract, you must attend this meeting! Why? Because the company determines, based on activities like this, how much interest Hamilton workers have in nego-tiations. Our solidarity greatly influences what kind of offers they will make.

There are other reasons too! At this meeting you will hear the Negoti-ating Committee’s recommended contract

proposals. Members will have a chance to ask questions, and change, add, or elimi-nate items. The Negotiating Committee has drafted these proposals based on issues that have come up during the life of the agreement, bar-gaining surveys, and concerns you have expressed at meetings and in the shop. Please spread the word and encourage all members to attend. Doors will be opened at 9:30 am. The meeting will begin at 10:00 am.

Help a friend organize today for a better tomorrow Every Machinist is an organizer, and because we all realize the benefits of union membership we must work to organize the worksites of our family and friends. If you know of a company that needs to be organized call the local lodge or email [email protected] and we will ensure the proper information is forwarded to the IAM District 26 Organizing Department.

Brothers and Sisters: The time has come, once again! Another 3 years has past. On March 16th your elected negoti-ating committee, the District staff and the IAM will go head to head with UTC and Hamil-ton Sundstrand in demanding a

fair and just contract for our members. There is no doubt that

our members deserve a fair contract even more today than ever. Downsizing, outsourcing, pension cuts, cost shifting, insurance and many more company agenda items will hurt our members, their families and our com-munity. We all have suffered over the last 12 months with layoffs, pay cuts, furlough days, tougher man-agement, and HR treating us like ALPO dog food.

NO MORE ALPO!!! Get ready brothers and sisters! The company has a serious fight on their hands. Regardless of the econ-omy, our members have produced quality products, on time, and under budget over and over again. We are the premier parts supply warehouse for the

aircraft industry. Don’t think for one minute that we won’t take them on, we will if they force us to! Think about it,.. pension cuts, healthcare cost shifting or elimination, increased outsourcing, wage freeze or reduction, increase furlough time, additional layoff or department closures… Anything is possible and quite frankly...probable. All these items are take-aways you and your family cannot afford!

So...Get Ready! Get Involved! Get Tough!

Lawmakers Welcome IAM Win at Pratt Taken from: IAM i-Mail

Connecticut state lawmakers are applauding the landmark decision by U.S. District Court Judge Janet Hall to block Pratt & Whitney from closing a pair of factories in Cheshire and East Hartford, CT. Connecticut state lawmakers are applauding the land-mark decision by U.S. District Court Judge Janet Hall to block Pratt & Whitney from closing a pair of facto-ries in Cheshire and East Hartford, CT. “I am very pleased with the court’s decision -- Con-necticut has some the best highly skilled workers in the country and my colleagues and I have always worked hard to ensure that critical aerospace and de-fense work continually grows in our state,” said Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) in a statement issued following the decision. “Pratt & Whitney’s decision last summer to move critical jobs from East Hartford and Cheshire out of state and overseas was rash and short-sighted, and the decision last night affirms what we have known for months: they did not negotiate in good faith.” Rep. John B. Larson (D-CT) also praised the injunc-tion against Pratt &Whitney, calling it an overwhelm-ing victory for Pratt workers and the State of Con-necticut. “I congratulate the Machinists Union and its members on successfully challenging the actions of

Pratt & Whitney and ensuring more than 1,000 highly skilled jobs remain where it belongs, in Connecticut,” said Larson. “The company’s plans to close both the Cheshire and East Hartford CARO operations without taking every legitimate action to prevent it, is both disheartening and upsetting.” Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who submitted an amicus brief supporting the IAM position, called Judge Hall’s ruling precedent setting and “bulletproof on appeal.”

IAM District 26 Directing Business Representative Everett Corey thanked the entire Connecticut delega-tion, including Governor Jodi Rell, the State Legisla-ture and many other state and municipal leaders for their strong support. “This is truly a win for Team Connecticut,” said Corey.

Sportsman's Corner Submitted by: Michael Bennett, Proud LL743 Member

Take Pride…”Go Union!” The work place is not the only place to strut your stuff. As a proud Local 743 Union member, I take pride in displaying my Union logo wherever I go. In this case, it was Altmar, New York while salmon fishing the Salmon River. Not only does my union shirt provoke questions from keen observers, but it also brings plenty of compliments. There is no better way to support our Union with pride than by showing the IAM colors. With today’s ever declining economy, America’s labor unions give us a future to hope for. One of the greatest compli-ments I can hear while playing a 30 pound salmon is “Go Union!”.
