Thus, from this perspective, they are concerned with who was the first to introduce the [term] Ḥ asan.” Shaykh Al-Albānī ( ): “What is the result—may Allāh bless you—what is the result of knowing who first introduced the term aḥīḥ? Who was the first to use the terms Musta  fīḍ , Mutawā tir and Mashū? They will never be able to say that so and so was the first to use these terms. So and so is the first to use the term aḥīḥ. What is the benefit? Supposing that we knew who introduced all of these terms, what is the benefit? I stated previously--may Allāh bless you--if you were to say, for arguments sake, that we knew who introduced a term, but afterward he abandoned it, what is the benefit? So now  you are tested with the likes of these innovators. Innovators are not only found in Fiqh and acts of worship. No, the people of innovation are many, and presently there are a number of innovations in the science of Ḥadīth. 1 So you are put to trial by these innovators.” 2    1 The Shaykh is referring to a group who, among other atrocities, reject the category of Ḥadīth Ḥ asan. They claim that this term is an invention of the later scholars and therefore contradicts the methodology of the earlier people of Ḥadīth. There is no question that if this group of innovators had their way, much of the authentic Prophetic Sunnah would be lost. May Allāh bless Al-Muaddith al-Albānī and those like him from the scholars of Ḥadīth who have aided the Religion by repelling great harm from the Ummah. 2 See Su’alāt al -Albānī (p. 41-42)
