Thanks to all who facilitated the kick-off breakfast and to all who participated. Thanks --- • To Mary Ann Navarro who took the lead in planning the Breakfast and who reminded us how our funds

are used to support families with Parkinson’s and researchers who are working for a cause and cure. • To C.J. Mitchell who monitored the program. • To Joe Kelley who set up the AV and inspired us with a video of past walks. • To Mary Navarro who exhibited the Navarro family walk t-shirt, who shared ideas for fundraising and

“fun-raising,” using the web for registering teams and following team progress. • To Kay Hays for suggesting additional ways to raise funds. • To Wilson Family Y for providing a perfect meeting room. • To Louie Navarro for being the man of the hour, carrying items to and from the building.

12 people were present representing 6 teams. Door prizes were awarded to three lucky people – Patricia Elam Jackson, Emma Grace Maroni, and Mary Navarro. A Message From C.J.: Greetings!

Hope you all have had a great summer, visiting with family and friends. They tell us fall is in the air, but if you step outside, it doesn't quite feel like it yet. Time is slipping up on us for the walk - will be in less than 8 weeks ... hopefully your teams are getting started - no donation is too small or too large ... Last year we were able to give 3 grants - this year we hope to be able to do the same, plus the Respite Grant Program is off the ground ... all of which we are able to do thanks to the funds we raise from the Moving Day Walk for Parkinson’s. If you'd like to help in any way, before and/or at the Walk, PLEASE let us know ...we can use any and all the help you can give! Look forward to seeing you at our next meeting Sept. 23! Have a Blessed Day, C.J.

Research Spotlight: Vitamin D Deficiency and Dementia Federal Health Update Elderly people with a moderate-to-severe Vitamin D deficiency are significantly more likely to develop dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, according to a recently published study, confirming a link that was much stronger than what the researchers had anticipated. The six-year study, published online in Neurology, examined 1,658 Americans, aged 65 or older, who at the start of the study had not suffered from dementia, cardiovascular disease or a stroke and who could walk without assistance. The team found that adults who were moderately deficient in Vitamin D were 53 percent more likely to develop a form of dementia; those with a severe deficiency were 125% more likely to be stricken with the disease. More than 44 million people around the world suffer from dementia, the researchers note, and that figure could triple by 2050 as the global population quickly ages.
