Tranquillity High School October 24

This year Tranquilliity High School is happy to an-

nounce their participation in the PBIS model for behav-

ior intervention. We are in year one of a three year

commitment, which begins with school wide participa-

tion. Our team is made up of our Principal Mr. Atoian,

Ms. Lua, our school psychiatrist, Mr. Mackey, our Spe-

cial Education teacher, Mr. Martinez, one of our math

teachers, Mr. Zavala, our Instructional Coach, and the

PBIS coach is Mrs. Rodriguez, one of our business

teachers.

PBIS is a systems approach for establishing social culture that includes different intensities of supports for

those students who need it. It is a proactive approach to dealing with discipline in which behaviors ex-

pectations are taught in the same manner as any core curriculum subject. It is another way of disciplining

students by using “other” alternatives to suspensions effectively, such as campus clean up, bully preven-

tion programs, and substance abuse programs, and the use of the reflection center.

The positive behavior expectations for our school are modeled by the acronym ROAR, which stands for

Respect, On Task, Achievement, and Responsibility. As a school, we need to engage in positive behavior

at all times, whether it be in the classroom or in the hallways during passing time. Students will be re-

warded for their positive behavior through school ral-

lies and an incentive program that we are starting very

soon. We want all students to know that their positive

behavior will not go unnoticed and we appreciate those

who are already helping to create a positive school

climate and culture. Stay tuned for more information

on our incentive program coming soon!

The next stop was at another gallery,

called The Arthouse, where they had

amazing paintings and more face painting.

The third hop was to M Street gallery

where they had creative sculptures and

paintings. They even had a local photogra-

pher taking pictures of children and a

place where they could make crafts. The

last stop was at Sorenson’s Gallery,

where there were many creative pieces

of art on display and an artist showing the

art of glass blowing. Everyone had a great

time and can’t wait to go again next

month to visit other galleries.

On October 2, 2014, the photography

club and Yearbook Club attended Art

Hop, which is held in Downtown Fres-

no on the first Thursday of the month.

Our first stop was at Arte Americas,

which was themed for El Dia De Los

Muertos. Students thought it was pret-

ty cool since it was something they

could connect to due to their Latin

heritage. There were many beautiful

paintings that reminded some students

of their home back in Mexico. Some of

the students had their face painted in

the spirit of El Dia De Los Muertos.

This season has been a great a run for Cross Country. This year

the most difficult course has been the invitational at Woodward

Park. However, our runners have been able to surpass the course

with hard work and dedication to the sport. Our runners have

been able to improve their time in each course. The boys Cross

Country team will be ready to defend their valley championship in

November.

The varsity boys’ team is coached by Mr. Dominguez and has four

returning runners. The team consists of one senior and six juniors.

The top varsity runners are Miguel Rivera, Eduardo Arias, Chris-

tian Cabrera, and Javier Leal. The JV cross country team has fifteen

runners. The top runners are Victor Cabrera, Rafael Avalos, and

Usiel Martinez. Some of our top freshman runners are Rafael

Chocoteco, Juan Sanchez, and Eduardo Torres.

The girls’ team is coached by Mr. Sandoval and has three seniors

Alma Mejia, Yulisa Sanchez, and Yasmin Godinez. Returning junior

Cindy Alvarez is team captain and new runners include Leslie Ta-

relo, Jailin Macias, Kayla Toro, Andrea Oritz, Estrella Mijares, and

Cici Mendoza.

Student Life: Our Varsity Girls Lady Tigers current overall record is 3-8. it is

really hard to pick a player of the game after ever game as it

takes the team work of the 6 girls on the court to win. Having

Gaby Botello and Diana Osegueda back on the court from their

injuries really helped strengthen our team. We have been

sporting our Pink Game Jerseys in Support of Breast Cancer

Awareness Month. Although we are 0-3 in League, it is just the

beginning and the girls battle every game to stay in it. You can

see improvements every game and that’s what make me proud.

#24 Berenice Marin – Back Row

#18 Jackie Flores -Setter

#15 Jennifer Zamora AKA Jenny – Queen of Kills/Middle

Blocker

#12 Diana Osegueda AKA TWIN 12 – Back Row

#11 Jennifer Zamora AKA Squints – Outside Hitter/Blocker

#10 Gaby Botello – Hitter/Blocker

#8 Vivana Osegueda AKA TWIN 8 – Back Row

#7 Shadia Urbieta AKA Shawdy – All Around Player

And a special thanks to Mikey Fruto and Angelina Rosas for

their help at the score table. To Mr. Dominguez and his class

for the preparation of the gym on game days. And of course,

Athletic Director Erica Gaytan, who has done everything to

help get our volleyball season off to a great start.
