• The Allies had made major gains, taking North Africa.• British and American airplanes conducted

massive bombing raids on German factories.• In July, the Allies including a large

contingent of Canadian Soldiers, invaded Italy. For the first time, Germany was losing the war.

in February, 1945 the Allies crossed the Rhine River into Germany.•German Cities were now being

bombed 24 hours a day. There was no mercy. Canadian Aircrafts bombed the city of Dresden killing 50 000 civillians.•Adolf Hitler shot himself on April 30 as

Russian troops stormed Berlin.
