The Third Sunday of EasterApril 10, 2016
The Third Sunday of SundayApril 10, 2016
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
The Lord is risen from the tomb, alleluia, alleluia!
We continue to celebrate the Easter season with the Sacraments of Initiation. Last Sunday, Lucia Gagliano, a twelve-year-old girl, made her First Communion before her family and the community. Her facial expression made clear her joy and excitement.
As a risen people, we are called to live our lives with joy. The Gospel readings of the Easter season all help us to deepen our belief in Jesus crucified and risen from the dead.
Once again this past week, the community gathered for the fourth festival of faith with Generations of Faith (“GOF”). This opportunity for so many to gather and look at issues of faith for multi-generations is wonderful. My hope and prayer is that many who attended will continue the conversation at home for further discussion and growth.
More and more I am hearing the crack of bats and the gathering of all ages on our three parish
baseball fields. Last Saturday, many families gathered in the rain to prepare the fields for the upcoming season.
Lastly, the bulbs that I planted last fall have sprouted. Some of the daffodils were budding for
Easter and have since opened even with the snow of last weekend. Hope springs eternal! As far as the crocus bulbs, they were found by the squirrels and provided an early winter feast, even they are entitled to a Thanksgiving celebration.
May peace be given you,
Fr Ron

THE 3RD SUNDAY OF EASTERAPRIL 10, 2016Do You Love Me?Jesus asks Peter a pointed question in Sunday’s Gospel. How would you feel if he asked the same question of you?
I N C A R N A T I O N P A R I S H

Here is the story.
With Jesus dead, the disciples were milling around on the shore of the Sea of Tiberius. They had not yet received the Holy Spirit and were left at loose ends.Peter got tired of this standing around so he said, I’m going fishing, anybody want to come? They joined him gladly and they fished all night. All night is unreasonable from our point of view, but not in a fishing society.
The break of day revealed a man standing on shore.
In the boat, John, the mystic, the one Jesus loved especially well, whispered hoarsely, “It is the Lord”!! Peter hurled himself into the water and wobbled the hundred yards to shore, leaving to someone else the job of bringing in the boat. It seems that Peter, the denier, actually loved Jesus very much.
And that is the question. Can you say you love Jesus very much?
He looks at your face and addresses you by your name. “ _______ , do you love me more than these?”
Such a question. What will you say? Give the answer to the Lord when you are ready, even if it isn't perfect. Put it into words. Don’t read further till you have done this.
Then, when he hears your answer, listen to him say to you, “Feed my lambs.”
Phew. Thank God the trial is over and you don’t have to deal with more questions like that.
But he asks you again, by name, “ _______ , Do you love me?”
What does the repeated question do to you? He said loudly, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Our hearts go out to him, and also to you since you also have been asked a second time. What is your answer now? Take your time.
After your answer Jesus replies, “Tend my sheep.”
Ok. But yet again, not just twice but a third time, the tender but unnerving question, before you have had time to settle your mind and heart.
By name he asks, “ _______ , Do you love me?” Let the question echo inside you.
Consider your daily attitude toward Jesus and toward God. Do not say your answer lightly. Give
it quietly in prayer to Jesus, or out loud if you wish. Take your time. Pay attention to how it feels to say it.
Maybe you will reply as Peter did, “Lord, you know everything, you know that I love you.”
Or do you have another answer? Something like,
“Lord, you know everything, you know that I want to love you, but also I want to have a reasonably good life. You can see the fear and the running away and distraction I live by—are you going to condemn me for them? I want to love you but maybe not yet.”
. I N C A R N A T I O N P A R I S H
6
Jesus answers, “Feed my lambs.”
Stay with it. Think about it. Pray about it.
Does it mean that we who are sinful can be part of Jesus’ mission? We don’t have to be perfect? We are forgiven? If the answer is yes, then let
Feed his lambs.__________*Notice that there are two lengths for the Gospel for this Sunday, the long version and the short. Unfortunately, if your parish needs to use the short one, you will not hear the part about the Jesus' question. You can read it, though, at John 21:15.

THE PERSPECTIVE OF JUSTICEThe Good News of the Resurrection
“Christ is risen, and makes all things new.” The resurrection is not just about Jesus rising from the dead; it is about the renewal of all of creation. “Let all the earth cry out to God with joy,” for Christ is risen, and with him all creation.
With the resurrection we are now in the new time, when the sea produces an unlikely catch of fish, and the net is not torn.
The resurrection of Jesus is also about our own resurrection, which we anticipate with hope. We pray that our Easter “joy will come to perfection in heaven.” But we know that there is a life to be lived, a life of struggle for the sake of the Gospel.
Like the apostles, who were “full of joy that they had been judged worthy of ill-treatment for the sake of the Name,” we have to be willing to suffer
pain and persecution before we “rise and come forth into the light of day.”
By persevering in the effort to bring good news to the earth and all its inhabitants, we will one day join in with “the voices of every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea” in a song of praise and honor “To the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb.”
As the third millennium of the redemption draws near, God is preparing a great springtime for Christianity, and we can already see its first signs. In fact, both in the non-Christian world and in the traditionally Christian world, people are gradually drawing closer to gospel ideals and values, a development which the Church seeks to encourage.
Today in fact there is a new consensus among peoples about these values: the rejection of violence and war; respect for the human person and for human rights; the desire for freedom, justice and brotherhood; the surmounting of different forms of racism and nationalism; the affirmation of the dignity and role of women.Pope John Paul II, Redemptoris Missio,1990: 86

GENERATIONS OF FAITHWe are a community of life-long learners. Our parish program of inter-generational learning and celebration of faith is called Generations of Faith. Materials are in the Church or available at our Faith Formation Office through Ann Lahiff.

CARE OF THE SICK To arrange for the Sacrament of the Sick, for Holy Communion for the home-bound, or Viaticum for the Dying, please contact the parish office. We normally send ministers out with communion after the eight o’clock on Sunday, and also schedule regular home visits during the week. It is always possible to anoint the sick during regularly scheduled liturgies. All you have to do is ask!
ORDER of CHRISTIAN FUNERALSWe will work with you to plan your own funeral liturgy or that of a loved one, and are prepared to celebrate the Vigil, also known as the “Wake,” in the Church building for those who choose.
