President’s Message

Greetings for a Great August! July proved to “Hold Together” quite nicely and so now we must venture into August with just as much if not more courage and swagger. Under the leadership of Treasurer and Fundraising Coordinator Ro-Jean Norris and daughter marketing expert Rochelle, a small, but competent group structured a new blueprint for the traditional Spaghetti Dinner event. It’s something like no other! In fact, I’ve never tasted anything like it before! So for our August meeting on the 13th at Mr. Gatti’s, please be prepared with your sales rosters to share. The Anchors have been busy this summer trying to tie up loose ends before school starts. We’ve spent countless hours making “back to school” tokens for the NSSH teachers and are heading to the Ronald McDonald House this Saturday (the 8th) for a tour and to drop off a year’s worth of Coke tabs. If you have any on hand, let me know. And speaking of Anchors, the signature project for the Texas District Anchors is a paper drive to support local schools. Business Meeting Minutes, July 16, 2015, Continued

Fundraising: Rojean Norr is has sent out letter s requesting items for our spaghetti dinner and has al-ready received some raffle items. The wagon is in storage for the liquor basket. Any silent auctions can be put in stor-age or at Linda Norris’s house. Joan brought spaghetti dinner reconciliation forms and auction item forms.

Julie discussed the possibility of our Club having a virtual fund raiser. Julie learned of this idea while attending the Pilot International convention. Our Club would sell ads and tickets for auction items and the liquor basket; but we would not actually have the spaghetti dinner. A motion was made that we would change the spaghetti dinner to a virtu-al fund raiser in lieu of the physical, hands-on spaghetti dinner. Second by Julie Fallin. There was discussion. All ap-proved. Motion carried.

Publicity: There was a picture in the local newspaper from the Fresno convention.

Pick-Me-Ups: Julie showed the members Pick-Me-Up cards that she received from the International Conven-

tion. There is a Pick-Me-Up manual on line.

Unfinished Business

Final Budget approval. A motion was made and seconded via e-mail. Budget was approved. Meeting location. Julie suggested we meet here until we find a better, more conducive place. All in favor. Audit committee. Books need to be delivered to the Audit committee by July 31, 2015. Sonya Anderson,

Margaret Offill, and Joan Van Fleet are serving on this committee.

New Business Julie will invite Gil Hoffman from the North Channel to be an honorary Pilot. Convention Report Julie would like to present a 10-minute motivational/educational segment at our meetings. Possible topics might include excerpts from Jon Gordon’s The Energy Box, Pilot’s Code of Ethics, or the history of Pilot International. Julie suggest-ed changing our door prize format with an “ears or tails” game. Julie distributed copies of The Positive Pledge by Jon Gordon. Julie also passed out a Club Member Survey to all mem-bers and asked that the survey be returned to the next meeting. At the Pilot International convention, a bylaw was ap-proved to bring back the Compass Club, which would provide a transition between the Anchor Club and Pilot Club. It has not been decided whether or not the Compass Club would “stand alone” or be connected with an individual Pilot Club. Go to PortalBuzz.com to set up your password. By doing this, you will be able to keep all personal information for our Club up to date.

Five Anchor officers attended a motivational retreat at the Drury Inn and Suites/Woodlands in July. The three-day weekend was packed with fun, food, fine motor skills, and hard work. The students brainstormed, planning a year of service projects and began a project making over 300 "welcome back" gifts for the teachers at North Shore Sen-ior High School. New sponsor, Ms. Roberson, arrived on Saturday to a warm reception and fit right in. Welcome, Ms. Roberson! After a quick trip to the Woodlands Mall, it was back home to life as usual. A make-up meeting is planned for Saturday, August 1, at Mr. Gatti's for those who could not attend.

It is with a sad and heavy heart that we must remem-ber our dear Pilot Pat Cooper. Pat was a kind, loyal, member of the San Jacinto Pilot Club since 1995. She traveled to many conventions as far as Hawaii and as close as Baytown and served our com-munity tirelessly in many ways, always ready to lend a hand. Her smile and laughter was infectious. I will always remember riding with Pat in the Creative Corner bus to see the Nature Trail at Camp for All, a TBI project our club funded and one she was very passionate about. She was glowing that day as I’m sure she is today. Please keep Pilot daughter-in-law Renee and husband Ronnie, husband Ward, and Pat’s family in your thoughts in your prayers as we say good bye.
