Novelty sugar confections are (finally) giving stalwart cocoa items a run for their money thanks to revitalisation across the candy landscape globally. As major players align with growing demand for ingredients transparency, sweets manufacturers of every size can be seen appealing to consumers’ sense of fun with hot, sour, fizzy, popping and ‘cooling’ formulations wrapped up in eye-catching, interactive and personalised packaging.
Premium, high cacao products bridge a gap for consumers who are vigilant about what they eat, yet who still value a pick-me-up or occasion-led indulgence. As more manufacturers can be seen opting for natural sweeteners such as date syrup to meet recommended nutrition and calorie benchmarks, modern diets that focus on the positive role of fat are equally driving a resurgence of traditional whole dairy desserts. From triple cream yoghurt to soft serve ice cream, the appeal of satiating, wholesome ingredients can be seen inciting between-meal consumption of good old-fashioned sweet courses amongst key consumer demographics.
Better-for-you biscuits with naturally occurring sugars, shelf stable ‘pick ‘n’ mix’ probiotics and calorie-limited portion sizes all point to the fact that customers are snacking as part of a holistic approach to healthier eating.
