The victory gaveWire Boy the points needed to make lilma champion. This show will ko down Inhistory a one of the beat conducted andprettiest benched shows seen on theKreen.
The show waa distinctive In the num-ber of new docs Introduced for the Histtime to the show ring. Among themnere II. Menken's English bulldog DukoVIII., a very promising sou of the l:itoltayardo; Mrs. J. C. Mallory's Peking-ese spaniels, Wonchl of Kgham nnd NeaChlnky Chu, two very tine specimensshown here for the Drat time: John IZ.llorrax'u massive brlndle pled Kngllshbulldog, Iord Vernx, which lie pur-chased at the recent Westminster show, where he wan on the bench for exhibi-tion only. Lotd Veray Is one of theheaviest boned dogs on Ce bench y,

I).Dunn's Some Nobby Hoy won threefirsts, but met defeat in the winner'sclass by George Parker's Cllpstone Starnnd rtalph Cnhn's Crown Prince. Mr.Neat's placlngs were of a consistencythat was as pleasing as It Is rare In thelloiton classes.
Alrednle terriers were out In force.Home disappointment was occasioned bythe absence of the unbeaten PatrickOorang, which was, entered, hut failedto show up In the' ring. The youngAmerican bred Oee Long Cadet repeatedhis charily show performance of goingfrough his classes to winners.
Quite an upset occurred In the Eng-lish bulldog bitch class for winnerswhen Champion Crlssle Denton nndChampion Florence Ilhundha were placedover the Rockllffe Kennels' great Cham-pion Oak Nana, considered by manyAmerican and English Judges to be thegreatest bitch ever seen In this coun-try. This class brought out three of thebest of this breed and Oak Nana's noteven getting reserve winners waa ashock to the rlngslJers.
In Sealyham terriers W. Iloss Proc-tor's famous Brookdale Kennels scoredwith tho International Champion IvoCarodoc, which defeated the OreentreeKennels' recently 'Imported Sir RogerIn the dog class, and with Dtrkdale I3ess,a daughter of Mr. Proctor's sensationalChampion Oesalma. In the bitch classes.
Mrs. C. Hnlstead Yates, who Judgedthe Dalmatian and Oerman sheepdogclasses, made her Initial appearance Inthe ring as a Judge of the latter breed, although she has officiated as a Dalma-tian Judge on many occasions beforeyesterday.
An exhibit that caused considerableattention was a magnificent string ofOld English sheepdogs exhlhtlrd by Mrs.Tyler Morse, whose kennel houses someof the finest specimens of this breed InAmerica.
A very good entry of oolites was outunder Judge Patrick Tully, one of theoldest collie breeJers In America, whosays that the high quality of the dif-ferent specimens was n surprise. Thewinner, Mrs. May McCurdj'sPlncwood Petmgrad, a beautiful headeddoc with elegant coat and shown InBrand form, won from Fred Lelgliton'sHmvRllI Leader, a fine sable nnd whitethat pressed the winner closely. LeaderIs Ju.it going out of coat and washandicapped slightly by this.
One of the best bitches In this coun-try at the present time la the winnerOak Jllll Iris, which won over Hal-ste-
Phoebe, another beautiful speci-men showing lots of quality.
Mrs. A. L. Holland's Pekingese Catrn-whl- nTlnto, recently purchased from
England at a record price, made herfirst appearance before local exhibitorsand annexed the winner's prlre, therunner up being Mrs. A. McCluro Hal-ley- 's
sensational American bred puppyQuena of Llenrud, which went frompuppy to resen-- winners, beating astrong field In the American bred class. This feat Is all the more remarkable asQuena Is only t months of age.
The Brussels Orlffon, champion IronCity Hercules, owned by Mrs. B, H.Throop, won the special for the best toyIn the show, defeating many championPekingese and Pomeranians.
Ttie good attendance was made uplargely of well known society folk. TheOreat Neck, Meadow Brook, Wheatlyinils, Hempstead, Rockaway and otherLong Island colonies sent many repre-sentatives, and even Westchester waswell represented. Among those whowatched the placing with Interest wereMr. and Mrs, Tyler Morse. Hutton, Mr.and Mrs. M. E. Harby. Mr. and Mrs.O. Foster Rawlins, Mrs. Arlc Winstonand Mrs. Benjamin II. Throop.
No criticism of the variety classes tsnecessary. It may be said, however, that Judges Messrs. I)e Mund. Payneand Wolcott carried the ringside criticswith them In nearly all of their awards, which Is n good deal to any when thamixed nature of the competition is con-sidered.
In wire hatred fog terriers the un- -beatable, brace, Wire Boy of Paigntonand Holmbury Reeve, owned by OeorgeQulntnrd, captured the winners roaetteIn the dog and bltoh class. This winmade both of these dosrs full fledgedchampions. The awards:

on Warm Days.
With th coming spring and summershows at which the temperature Is continuously high and the atmosphere hu- -mid nnd oppressive, it Is highly probablethat nil rlogi taken out of their usualsurrotimllnVs nnd conditions of life and 'exposed to nceptlonnt heat and excite-ment will he affected.
SH'clnl precautions sbould be taken to;ivolil strlous constviuences, For eev-r-
days before lending or taking kilog to a show oaroful attention shouldlie paid to Its general condition. Con-stipation must l guarded tigalnst andthe iKJWfls regulated by correct dietingnnd If a purge In necessaryIt nevt r should he given Just before de-parting for a xhow but about two orthrm il.iys before so that the dog willhavo miltlclent time to assume Its nor-mal before the Journoy Isundertaken. I)r not give the dog uheavy meal before starting even If thetrip Is a long one, a a light meal atthis time la much more benerlctal. Plentyof fresh cold water Is necessary, not Inunlimited quantities, but often enoughto prevent distress.
In sultry weather even dogs withroomy baskets are liable to considerabletroublo from the heat Nervous animalsulwnys should haws a dose of bromideadministered before starting and If need-ful repeated In from one to two hoursIf the dog Is accompanied.
For iidult Pomeranians, Pekingese,Griffons, Ac., give five grains In a

If dogs are found unconscious do not Isattempt to pour anything down theirthroats. Dip the finger In raw brandy Isand rub the Inside of the lips and gumswith It. Careful, artificial respirationmay bo employed If the breathing Is ashallow, and smelling salts are some-times useful. These remedies should beri sorted to If the unconsciousness Isbrought on by suffocation or heart fail-ure.
Tor convulsions apply cold water com-presses to the head, put the dog In acool, dark place and give the necessarydotes of bromide. It Is a good plan totnke both bromide and brandy to theshow. Hponglng the mouth out frequent-ly with cold water Is to be recommended.
Do not ship dogs In tho heat of theday, hut always If possible let themtrnvel nt night. Do not put more thanone dog In each crate and give eachdog too much room rather than too llttlo.

PICKING OF JUDGES
IS DELICATE WORK
Many Shows Are Rnined byUnwise Selections
of Official!.
That the question or Judges Is oneof the most Important that confrontsthe fancy y Is an axiom. Everyfancier of the dog Is or ought to bevitally Interested In the men selected topass on Ms favorite breed, The Judgeswho place the clots at shows are the edu-cators of Jhe fancy.
Kor that reason the Ideals of mostbreeder are guided by those who Judge,All bench rhow committees know thatthe success or failure of their show de-pends largely on tho alate of Judgeswhich they appoint. The handlers aleoaro Influenced by the names of thosewho are to make the awards and manyspecialty clubs have withheld their spe-cials from a show because the Judge attho fixture did not appeal to them asMunlltled. The easiest way to hurt thefancy Is In an unwise selection ofJudges.
The selection should be carefully madennd committees should see that the sameJudges do not place the same breedsat too many shows. It Is unwise for aspecialty club to submit names to showsecretaries of novices, of members wnoare good fellows or have bought acouple of good dogs but who know noth-ing of the standard of the breed theyare to Judge. Brery specialty club'slist of Judges should be made up ef manwho are competent and will do the rightthing by the club and the doc irre-spective of any pontics or personalfriendship for one exhibitor orer another.
The solution of the Judging problemIs to let the best men be placed In thering, the ones who oan and will ptaoethe dogs as they think they approachtho standard. There are many men whoare competent to place at least onebreed correctly and the summer showsshould try to find these men and bringthem out and In thla way Increase thenumber'of tried and true Judgea.
