The Stuart monarchs

The house of Stuart ruled England, Scotland and Ireland from 1603 until 1714. They ruled during the English civil war as well as the restoration period of Charles the second.

Upon the death of queen Elizabeth 1 in 1603, the English throne was passed to the house of Stuart.

The first king of the Stuarts

Linked to the house of Tudor through Mary ,queen of Scots and her grandmother, Margaret Tudor, the house of Stuart would rule England and Scotland for many years.

Born in 1566,the first Stuart king, James because at one year old ,open forced abdication of his mother ,Mary queen of Scots

Continued In 1603 James inherited the

throne of England when his cousin queen Elizabeth1 died.

He traveled south to England, where he remained most of his life. He never took to the praise of the English court, preferring to dress simply and hunt. He married Anne of Denmark ,and had three kids.

The Stuart throne Although the Stuarts had lost the throne, the

dynasty continued in the person of James 11`s son ,James Francis Edward (1688-1766) and his grandsons ,one of whom was Charles Edward Stuart.

Charles pressed his families rights to the succession to the thrones of Britain. On a hereditary basis their claim was far more superior to that of their cousins , but they were debarred from the throne by 1701 act of succesion.

William

William was not a healthy child. Small and thin, with a slightly hunched

back He suffered badly from asthma all his

life. Tragically , William lost his mother when

he was only nine years old.

On a visit to England after the restoration of his brother, Charles 11 ,she got small pox and died there.

Being left alone at his early age , he developed a strong sense of self reliance.

William had gotten a really great education and was brought up to be a very nice and well taught young man.

He was brought up in Holland in the in the protestant, Calvinist faith.

He had married his cousin, Mary Stuart, She was born on April 30th 1662.

Anne the next Stuart queen

When Anne Tyde gave birth to a baby girl , no one would have guessed that she would be the next ruler of their English throne.

Anne`s uncle , king Charles the second ,he spent his youth exiled in France after the English civil war , wrestled the throne from the Stuart family and sent his father Charles 1 to the execution block.

Mary queen of Scots

Mary Stuart, queen of Scots was born into a full of religious turmoil.

Early in her life she was a pawn in a battle between Protestantism and Catholicism

As time past she struggled for her independence and her self-determination.
