Thank you for considering the Stafford Collegiate as the place to con nue your educa on. We believe that we provide the best 16‐19 curriculum in the area. The Stafford Collegiate has been working successfully as a partnership of post‐16 educa on providers for several years. It offers an outstanding range of courses at both A Level and BTEC for students from all the Stafford high schools and Stafford College. The goal of the Collegiate is to maximise the opportuni es for all 16‐19 students in Stafford by ensuring they have access to the broadest possible curriculum. A unique feature of Stafford Collegiate is that whilst each partner retains its independence, iden ty and ethos, co‐opera on takes place where it is clear students will benefit. Students gain the advantage of belonging to an ins tu on which will support you through KS5 and give you all necessary advice, informa on and guidance, pastoral care, tutorial support and enrichment. Alongside this you can take full advantage of choosing a programme of study for the sixth form from amongst the courses offered at each school, at the Chetwynd Centre and at Stafford College. It should be recognised that some courses are available at more than one ins tu on. You will normally take a course at your own school or college if it is part of that ins tu on’s curriculum, but you can also take full advantage of op ng to follow courses on offer in all partner ins tu ons. This may involve travelling between schools, Chetwynd and College, and to allow this to happen all partners operate a broadly common metable. As you will be a Collegiate student, irrespec ve of which school you a end, there is a common applica on process, which is completed on‐line. Your applica on form will be pre‐populated with your personal details. You will be given a user name and password for access to the applica on form, and you will be guided through the process at your school. The courses will appear in blocks A‐E, as they do in this prospectus. We look forward to welcoming you to the Collegiate in 2012.

This is an exci ng me for Y11 students and it is vital that you research your future programme of study very carefully. You should think about your possible post‐18 op ons and, in doing so, you may wish to look at university prospectuses or websites to view entry criteria. You should also consider your own strengths, see where you are succeeding, but also consider courses which may be new to you: psychology, law, media studies, etc. Take me to read carefully the individual course specifica on sheets available from all the Stafford high schools, the Chetwynd Centre, Stafford College, or on the website, before making your choice. By using this prospectus you can work out your metable when discussing your preferred programme of study and see what travel implica ons it may involve. Do not be put off by this. As a sixth form student you will gain a good experience of what life beyond school, such as university or the workplace, may be like. The best advice is: if there is any issue you are unsure about, ask! Some students may not know what AS and A Levels are or the difference between BTEC Level 3 Diplomas and Subsidiary Diplomas. Take as much advice as you can from school, home, advisors and, of course, Staffordshire Young Peoples Service. Using the special spreadsheet available in school you can even view your predicted A level grades by entering your target GCSE average points score. The applica on process usually begins a er your mock GCSE examina ons. Each school hosts a Post‐16 Choices Evening, and there is an open evening at the Chetwynd Centre, as well as several open evenings at Stafford College. You will make your provisional applica on by the beginning of March, but you are able to make changes to this once you receive your GCSE results in August. Key Dates

Applying to the Stafford Collegiate

Making Choices In order to widen the choice of subjects for students, the Stafford Collegiate has a collabora on agreement with all the Stafford high schools and Stafford College. Students from these ins tu ons may select courses on offer at any 16‐19 partner ins tu on. Please be assured the

metable is designed to minimise any impact on your learning as a result of studying a course at a different ins tu on. We fully understand that you may not be able to say, at this moment, precisely what subjects you will want to study next September, as a great deal depends on the measure of success you achieve in the examina ons this summer. We ask you, therefore, to make your preliminary choices, so that we can make plans for September, and as an indica on that you wish to be considered for a place in the Stafford Collegiate. It is very important that during this process you seek help and guidance from the appropriate subject teachers and subject leaders when you are in any doubt. Although there is some commonality between courses offered in the Collegiate, there will be differences in specifica ons and students are advised to consult the course specifica ons on the website www.staffordcollegiate.staffs.sch.uk or contact the Collegiate for further details. Please note, however, that if only a small number of students opt for a par cular course, it may not run. Also some prac cal subjects, e.g. those based in laboratories or workshops, may have a maximum class size. Stafford College Stafford College offers an extensive range of A‐levels and voca onal courses leading to university or the workplace. The college has a reputa on for voca onal courses in a wide‐range of specialist areas. Students progress on to university courses or u lise strong links with employers to go directly from college into rewarding careers. A‐Level subjects offered by Stafford College are listed in this prospectus. Because of the different combina ons of courses available, there is a clear set of entry criteria for students following courses through the Stafford Collegiate:

• To study four AS Level courses or a Level 3 BTEC and two AS Level courses in Y12, you must achieve a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at A*‐C in at least four different subject areas, including Mathema cs and English. You must also a ain a GCSE average points score in excess of 40.

• To study three AS Level courses, or a Level 3 BTEC and an AS Level in Y12, you must achieve

a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at A*‐C in at least four different subject areas, including Mathema cs and English.

• To study Mathema cs, Modern Foreign Languages or Music you will be required to achieve

at least a B grade in that subject at GCSE. • To study Science at A Level (Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry or Physics) you will be

required to achieve at least a B grade in that subject at GCSE Core and Addi onal Science. • To study Further Mathema cs you will be required to achieve an A/A* grade in

Mathema cs at GCSE. • To study other subjects already taken at GCSE you must achieve a grade C or above. • To study Level 3 Voca onal Courses you will need an A*‐C pass in at least five GCSE

subjects, including Mathema cs and English, or a BTEC First Cer ficate at Merit or above. Admissions Panel

Where applicants offer alterna ve qualifica ons or more than one qualifica on in the same subject, they may be referred to the Admissions Panel. This comprises representa ves of all partners. The panel reserves the right not to offer a place on a course to students who, it believes, would not benefit from it.

Induc on We are aware that transi on from KS4 to KS5 can be stressful. Some of our partners offer taster weeks a er the GCSE examina ons have finished in July. In order to provide students with the best possible start, all students undergo a period of induc on during the first week of lessons. Private Study Part of every student’s metable will be shown as Private Study. Students are expected to take responsibility for managing their me and workload. It is expected that students should spend at least three hours per subject per week studying outside of lessons. Target Se ng and Monitoring Each Collegiate student is set a series of personalised target grades based on their previous academic performance. Progress against these targets is monitored on a regular basis. This ensures that students remain focused and well mo vated, and retain a sense of realism about their academic performance. Pastoral Support Every Collegiate student is en tled to pastoral support with an assigned tutor, who has responsibility for overseeing their students’ progress, agreeing academic targets, and working on applica ons to university, college or the workplace. Enrichment Within the Collegiate there is an extensive range of enrichment ac vi es offered to students. This may include addi onal AS subjects, Open University qualifica ons or further recrea onal and academic op ons. Transport If you choose to study courses at different ins tu ons find out about travel. It is your responsibility to organise transport at the beginning and end of each day, but transport may be provided if you need to travel during the day.

This agreement lists the responsibili es and en tlements for all students studying across the Collegiate. It will be supplemented by the partners who will specify the individual requirements for studying at each ins tu on. All students and their parents/guardians must sign this agreement to confirm they understand and accept the condi ons. E X P E C T A T I O N S All students should: • Respect the individual rights of all students and members of staff, showing courtesy and considera on while

avoiding bad language and behaviour. • Respect the dress code of any partner ins tu on in which they study. In general, this means wearing smart

casual clothing and avoiding any kind of headgear, football tops and clothing with offensive logos or pictures. The defini on of “offensive” lies with the partner providing the subject.

• Ensure full a endance and submission of work at the appropriate standard. Where this falls below 92% in a subject, a review of progress will be carried out. Punctuality is also a requirement.

• Take greater responsibility for their own learning, using private study me effec vely and limi ng the amount of me commi ed to part‐ me work to no more than an average of 9 hours per week.

• Understand that no changes to their learning programmes can be made without the agreement of their Head of Sixth or Faculty Manager.

• Avoid taking any holiday in term me or arranging appointments during lesson me. • Use the ins tu ons’ facili es and equipment with care and respect; eat only in areas designated for this

purpose; and follow all Health and Safety regula ons. • Abide by all of the relevant policies, for example on the Use of the Internet, Student Discipline, Data

Protec on and Equal Opportuni es. • Not smoke on any part of the ins tu ons’ premises. • Carry a student iden ty card and show it to members of staff when asked to do so. • Not submit any assignments which contain work that is not their own without indica ng this. This is known as

plagiarism and includes copying, without acknowledgement, any work downloaded from the internet. Any such ac on may result in disciplinary ac on by the ins tu on or an awarding body.

• Ensure that mobile phones are switched off in all learning and studying areas; phones must not be taken into examina on rooms.

• Ensure that examina on regula ons are read and abided by. • Con nue to a end classes a er the AS examina ons, during which me A2 teaching will commence. • Return any books or equipment loaned by a partner ins tu on; failure to do so will incur financial

compensa on being sought. • Understand that failure to comply with the above could lead to disciplinary procedures being invoked. E N T I T L E M E N T S The Stafford Collegiate is commi ed to provide: • Good quality teaching and support for personal and social development. • A personal tutor who will monitor your progress, provide guidance and support the achievement of your

goals. • Regular assessments, with construc ve feedback, which will be returned within three working weeks a er the

official handing‐in date. • Wri en reports on your progress and one feedback evening for parents/guardians. • A representa ve, elected by the student body, who will raise issues with individual ins tu ons or with the
