30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

When we see God with true sincerity of heart
and God passes us along our way, it is only then
that we will be able to cry out, “Jesus, son of
David, have pity on me!” We have to truly want to be healed by,
and in union with, God in order for us to reach out to him. If God
is only an abstract idea, theory, or someone found in the pages of
a book, there is no motivation for a relationship and no desire to
seek him. God needs to be real in order for faith to be real. It’s all
about the journey.

St. Augustine reminds us that “to fall in love with God is the
greatest romance; to seek Him the greatest adventure; to find Him
the greatest human achievement.” We strive after many things
and mercy is not always one of them. We think that we can find
fulfillment and healing in other things only to discover that we are
still short and empty. From the moment human beings were creat-
ed, God has been calling us and seeking us. He has been walking
right beside the human story from the minute He first breathed
life into the first human soul. Are we able to recognize God as He
walks with us? At some point we have to realize that there is only
one way to satisfy the deepest longings of the human heart and
that is in relationship with our Creator. We are called to this.
However, we make the huge error of thinking that what we are
hearing is coming from somewhere else. We become confused.
Every human being would certainly profit with wisdom if they
realized Who calls them and to Whom they belong.

Then and only then will we realize that it is only our Divine Mas-
ter who can give us true vision and heal us. Once we recognize
and reach out for the merciful presence of our loving Maker, we
will be able to see with our soul, understanding the true nature
and depth of all things. God’s mercy is always available. It
doesn’t matter how far we have strayed or how blind we become,
God patiently waits to console us, guide us and heal us. All we
need to do is desire Him. Once we reach out, we also realize that
there is no greater love to be found than God’s, no human adven-
ture that comes even close to the thrill of a spiritual search, and no
human achievement even remotely as satisfying as union with
Him. This is where we belong. This is salvation.

AT PEACE IN CHRIST

Mary Drews
Georgianne Diegel
George Eccleston
The weekend of Oct. 23rd & 24th our parish will be taking up a
special collection for our priests’ retirement. The With Thanks for
Their Service in Christ collection will support the Priests’
Pension Plan, which provides a monthly pension as well as health
and automobile insurance to priests at age 70.

As you may know, the retirement years can be difficult for our
senior priests. No longer supported by their parish communities,
they rely on minimal Social Security benefits and their pension
from the Priests’ Pension Plan for basic needs, such as food,
housing, and transportation.

Please show your gratitude to those priests who have cared for
and ministered to our community by prayerfully reflecting on
how you can best help support our priests’ retirement with a gift
to the With Thanks for Their Service in Christ collection. Enve-
lopes can be found in the pews and may be returned at Mass or
mail it to the parish office. If you are donating by check please
make check payable to St. Malachy Church.

I am looking for volunteers to expand what I refer to as the
“E Mass” Ministry. When you participate in this Ministry, you
wear at least three different hats.

You are Tech Support. You hook up your laptop and live
stream the 9:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. mass on a large screen
to grateful residents of an Assisted Living facility.

You are an Usher. You assist residents into their seats and
park their walkers off to the side.

You are the Eucharistic Minister. You pick up the Holy
Eucharist on the way to the facility and serve communion
during the live streamed mass. You may also serve the
Holy Eucharist to a few residents who are “shut in” and
might also receive a request from a worker or two who can-
not attend mass because they are working Sunday morning.

I have been doing this for several months with our neighbors at
the American House around the corner from St. Malachy. Their
vocal participation in Mass from singing to prayer tells you
that the residents appreciate this Ministry so much. No one leaves
Mass early. However, the need is greater than just this one facili-
ty. I have identified at least two additional facilities that would
appreciate this Ministry. If you cannot support this Ministry eve-
ry week but can support it every other week or even once a
month, you would be helping to fulfill a significant need.

What makes this Ministry so fulfilling is the presence of two ad-
ditional parties.

1. The residents who are enjoying Mass together rather than
watching it alone on EWTN or missing it altogether. They
are once again part of a community of faithful. (“For where
two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in
the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20)

2. The real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist, which
makes this a complete Mass.

If you would like to take part in this Ministry, please give me,
David Osinski, a call @ 5869070831. Please leave a voice mail
if I do not immediately pick up.
Thank you.
