School Mission

Arden Middle School’s Mission Statement Inspired by a legacy of excellence and a commitment to students, Arden Middle ensures every student will achieve academic success and value responsibility by providing and celebrating the Arden Experience of dynamic progressive learning, enriching opportunities and meaningful staff-student connections.

School Profile

Arden is a school of over 950 students of multiple ethnicites and financial back grounds. Arden offers a wide range of opportunities and unique programs for students. Arden's band is recognized state wide due to the effort of our students. Arden also has an outstanding Volleyball, Wrestling, Flag Football, Boys and Girls Basketball and a competitive Track and Field program. Arden also has an outstanding Art program and Media class.

Arden is a Middle School that is a collaborative, dynamic school community where students, teachers, staff, parents and the community work together towards increased levels of student achievement. Our superior reputation is a direct result of high expectations and our our school wide focus on effort and resiliency.

Comprehensive Needs Assessment Components

Introduction The Site Strategic Planning process with the focus learning has driven the the development of our school wide improvement plan. Arden's objectives are that all students will develop and apply 21st century skills such as accessing and analyzing information, demonstrating initiative, using effective oral and written communication and utilizing technology. By 2014 we will reduct the number of students who are not performing at the proficient or advanced levels in English Language Arts, Math, History and Science by at least 50 percent. All students will develop and consistently demonstrate social responsibility by contributing to the Arden community and being a contentious member of Arden's student body. Finally, all students and their families will be successfully integrated into the Arden learning community.

Data Analysis Describe the use of data both during the 2 day planning meeting and action planning. Refer to research done during action planning.

Our team looked at school wide, district wide, state wide, state wide similar school and nation wide data to develop the action plan currently being implemented by the Arden staff.

Parental Involvement Resources available from family, school, district, and community to assist under-achieving students (ESEA)

Involvement of parents, community representatives, classroom teachers, other school personnel, and students in secondary schools, in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of ConApp programs (5 California Code of Regulations 3932)

Arden Middle School has several parent run organizations. The organizations primarily focus on supporting a particular extra curricular activity. The Band Booster club or theScience Bowl Booster club support specifically those students involved in the band or the Science Bowl team. However Arden Middle School has a very strong PTSA that supports all students and embeds their support through out the school day. One of the parent organization that supports our students is the Watch DOGS program that allows Dad's to support the students by volunteering on campus to provide assistance in the classroom and adult supervision in the hallway's and at lunch. Arden does not have student populations which give us access to ConnApp funds, we do have plans which address the needs of all students.

Description of Barriers and Related School Goals

Include the strongest themes from critical issues or Gap to Goal Review of Data The critical issues identified through our planning process include the following: 1. Several subgroups of students do not meet adequate proficiency levels on standardized tests. 2. Students lack adequate critical thinking skills and curriculum needs to shift further towards the expectations of the CCSS.
