Pastor Robert Perry was born and raised for 30 years in Delaware. He is a lifelong Methodist. As a teenager, he was a lifeguard and sailing instructor at Camp Pecometh – a United Methodist camp in Maryland. Summer vacations were spent at the Delaware sea shore with his family. He has two older sisters.
Pastor Robert spent roughly 15 years in the business world before finally answering the call to ministry. He enjoys reading, gardening, and cooking, and movies. Joleen is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, and has an older brother (Jay) and older sister (Jeni). She has worked for the State of Nebraska for over 20 years. She enjoys gardening, cooking, canning, kayaking, fishing, and getting to know people.
Between them, they have two sons from previous marriages. Ian Perry is entering his
senior year at Omaha North H.S. Julius Elwell just graduated from Kearney H.S.

With conference building moves, districts get new offices The closing of the conference office Lincoln means a new home for the Blue River district office.
The Blue River District office will relocate to ConnectioN Point, at 1333 N. 33rd St. in Lincoln, the former location of Faith UMC.
The move should take place once construction on the new offices is completed, said the Rev. Bill Ritter, Blue River District superintendent.
The phone number will remain 402-323-8849, but will ring in Topeka until the move is complete. Ask for Bill Ritter or administrative assistant Pam Savery.

Notes from Jo Ellen…
Church Family Life…
I cannot thank my church family
enough for the beautiful cards and
gifts of love for my education
process. I will go to week two of
licensing school in July and learned
much from week one this month.
The fellowship times on Sunday the
24th with cupcakes/ice cream were
much appreciated. Most thoughtful
is your outpouring of support, as I
walk this faith journey alongside you
as your Associate Pastor.
I love you and thank you as I am
deeply humbled by your love!
See you Sunday as we welcome our
new Senior Pastor, Robert Perry! It
is my prayer that you make both
Robert and Joleen feel as welcome as
you have my family.
Love and prayers, Jo Ellen

Lay Leadership Report
2018 Great Plains Annual Conference, June 13-16, Wichita, KS Theme: Therefore: Go … Proclaim Christ, Serve Others, Seek Justice, Know God
As a denomination founded on addressing social issues, workshops and discussion centered upon immigration issues (specifically the separation of families at the border), gun violence legislation, climate change, poverty/hunger issues. More topics meriting discussion were: evangelism, peaceful conflict settlement, growing small and mid-sized churches, the importance of small group “families” within existing congregation, the introduction of Fresh Expressions as a movement to start new kinds of churches “tethered to” existing congregations, and VBS as community outreach. Celebrations: + In response to natural disasters in 2017, the GPC collected 6500+ UMCOR flood buckets and in excess of $850,000 for relief. + GPC Lay Leader is Lisa Maupin from Lincoln. She considers laity to be the “lifeblood of our congregations and communities.” + 90.1% of all GPC churches contributed their assessed mission shares in 2017. In our own Blue River District, 98% met their mission shares. + The Blue River District Office will be moving to ConnectioN Point, 1333 N. 33rd, in Lincoln. Three proposals coming from the special committee, A Way Forward, have been submitted and will be addressed specifically at a Special General Conference in St. Louis, 2/23-26/19. This committee was tasked by the 2016 General Conference to respond to the World UMC Church regarding LBGTQ issues. Each GP District will hold their own conversation session with the bishop later this summer. Our Blue River District is currently scheduled to meet with Bishop Saenz on Saturday, August 25, from 3-5 p.m. at Trinity UMC, 7130 Kentwell Lane, Lincoln, NE regarding this issue. Attending from Seward were Pastor Robert Henre, JoEllen Axthelm, and Lynette Broderick. A full report was given to the congregations at the June 17 services. Much more information can be found at Great Plains Conference Communications: [email protected] or greatplainsumc.org

“The Finance Committee has decided sending quarterly statements at the end of March does not give much information to the congregation on their specific giving. Therefore, the Committee will be sending statements at the mid-year point for giving through June 30, and then again at the end of the year to the congregation. Individual pledges will be included on giving statements for a comparison of how close your giving is to your pledge.
