Worship Service Pentecost Sunday

June 4, 2017

“THE WESTMINSTER CHIMES” (Please use this time to prepare for worship.)

GATHERING TOGETHER

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE CALL TO WORSHIP: Rev. Bob Williams-Neal

Leader: Make us one in worship, in fellowship, in study, in service, and in sacrifice as you send us. People: Come, Holy Spirit! Leader: Make us one in concern for the poor, the broken, and the

despairing, to show them the power of your love. People: Come, Holy Spirit! Leader: Make us one with the same mind as Christ Jesus, proclaiming Him

to the world, that every knee bow down and every tongue confess Him Lord.

People: Come, Holy Spirit! * GATHERING SONG: #316—Breathe on Me, Breath of God * CONFESSING OUR FAITH: The Heidelberg Catechism – Day 4: Questions 9-11 Leader: Doesn’t God treat us unjustly by requiring us to keep the Law when we are unable to do so?

All: No, God created humans with the ability to keep the law. They, however, tempted by the devil, in reckless obedience, robbed themselves and all their descendants of these gifts.

Leader: Will God allow such disobedience and rebellion to go unpunished? All: Certainly not. For God’s anger is directed at the sin we are

born with as well as the sins we personally commit. As a just judge, God punishes them now and in eternity. For He has declared: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

Leader: But isn’t God also merciful? All: God is certainly merciful, but He is also just. His justice

demands that sin, committed against His supreme majesty, be punished with the supreme penalty—eternal punishment of body and soul.

* PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Rev. Bob Williams-Neal Lord, we forget that the One who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world. Remind us of that day when your Spirit transformed the lives of those who hid in fear into vessels of power. Renew our hearts, which have grown cold, with the flames of Pentecost. Refine us by the fire of the Holy Spirit that we would be the church and people you desire. Lord, hear our prayer… (silent confession)

SILENT CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* GREETING ONE ANOTHER: Leader: May the peace of Christ be with you.

People: And also with you. CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: #579—Glory Be to the Father ANTHEM

GROWING IN THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Proverbs 2:12-22 (pew Bible page 585) Pastor Steve CHILDREN’S MESSAGE SERMON: Deposited Deep Down OFFERING OUR TITHES AND GIFTS: (You are also invited to sign the friendship pad and pass along for others to do the same)

New and Exciting Small Group Opportunities

As exciting new learning and growing ministries begin at Trinity, is God stirring you to get involved? One new thing taking place is the start of a few small study groups! God calls us into an authentic relationship with one another in the body of Christ. If you’d like to grow your faith and get connected deeper to our church family, please consider one of the following groups: 1. The Quest- Seeking young adults and those young at heart who seek to grow in Christ. We invite young professionals, college students, single/married couples, young parents, and

those who are young at heart that would like to be mentors for the younger generations. 2.Power of the People (POP): A prayer m inistry group- to engage in prayer as Jesus taught his disciples and us to do; learn about and do praying for our disciple-growing, our church, the Church, and the many other areas the Holy Spirit will bring to our attention. 90 minutes weekly, at a time best determined by the group, where we will hear God's Word about aspects of prayer, learn about conversational prayer and most of all, spend the majority of the time in prayer together, talking to and listening to God about the concerns of our hearts for Trinity and our people. Please come to our SHORT Meet & Greet session on Sunday, June 4th at 12:00 pm. Meet with your group and greet one another.
