I have to say it makes it incredibly worthwhilewhen we receive mails from the readers tellingus how much they love the magazine and lifeis not worth living until the new edition arriveseach month… KEEP IT UP WE LOVE IT! Atsome point we may start printing outrageousexperiences or stories you may wish to intimately share with the Málaga Province! Allthe grinches and grumps can also have theirsay of course, can’t have smooth without therough! So don’t be shy, address all your prob-lems to DEAR [email protected]

It never ceases to amaze me, the weird andwonderful characters I meet along the CostaDel Sol. Each have their own story to tell, howthey’ve come to be here, why they’ve decidedto embark on a new life or new business in aforeign country. Many have tried and failed, many continue to develop, change and adaptto the current downturn and continue to prosper but there will always be the allure ofliving in the best climate in all of Europe, tosoak up its golden rays and swim in it’s warmwaters. The addictive appeal of opening a bottle of the “good stuff” and unwinding on theterrace overlooking the mountains or the sea, most of us can settle for that!

Of course that’s not all we have on ourdoorstep to enjoy. Our resident city, Málaga, isbuzzing with energy and vigor of an evening. Many of the theatres host productions fromonly the best of local independent productioncompanies. My daughter and I will attend aproduction called “The Thief Of Voices” andfor a live theatre experience which costs lessthan the price of a cinema ticket, it need notbe as expensive as you may think!

With the combination of all the charismatic

local bars, cafés and restaurants in the

surrounding areas, each with their unique

style, tradition and spontaneous

entertainment provided by “Don Pepito” in the

corner passionately extracting every ounce of

volume from his battered and worn acoustic

guitar.. It all makes for a complete

experience. The amount of times I’ve heard

people say “I’ve been here for 10 years and I

don’t go into Málaga much!” Give it a shot it’s

all there for you to discover and possibly

remind you of why you ever did come to live

here in the first place!

Have a nice May!!

Non-Surgical Facelifts

6

They are all therage at the moment,

especially ifyou don’t wantto go under the

knife. Non-Surgical

Facelifts without the

pain!

How does itwork? When the facialmuscles begin to shrink the drooping effect onthe face can be very aging. By rebuilding theaging muscle mass to its previous state theface is fuller. This fuller, healthier look alsohelps to eliminate many lines and wrinkles because the muscles are subject to "powerbuilding". Pads are placed in various poitionson your face and an electric current is passedinto your muscles. It’s called the BasendaleWave invented by Dr. Ronald Baxendale.

When do I start to see the results? Dr. Baxendale developed the Genie Machineup to one thousand times stronger than anything else available on the market. Resultsare visible after the first session.

How long is each treatment and how longwill it last? Each treatment takes aproximately 25 minutes. After a course of 10 treatments, monthly maintenance is recommended. Thiswill maintain the effect gained. Once or twicemonthly treatments will not only maintain, butalso continue to improve facial features.

Who benefits? Anyone over the age of 20. Mature peoplewhose muscles are starting to shrink will seegreat benefit and it is for both men andwomen.

How much does it cost? We have recently decreased our prices due tothe recession. A course of 5 treatments is22.50€ per session, a total of 112.50€. Whenbooking a course of 10, the price is 20€ persession, 200€ for the course. We also offer atrial session which is 12€.

Andy Warhol

Warhol photographed the boxer, MuhammadAli, in 1977 as part of his 'Athletes' series. The project was initiated by the art collectorand sports enthusiast, Richard Weisman, and featured the likes of the footballer, Pelé,and golfer, Jack Nicklaus. At first Warhol wasunfamiliar with the sports stars but characteristic of his obsession with fame, herecalled: “I really got to love the athletes because they are the really big stars”. Ali wasnot an easy subject but Warhol managed tocapture a powerful shot with the boxer’s fistspoised, ready to punch. Prior to printing thefamous image Warhol worked into the surface with paint to create the impression ofmovement.

Mandela & MichaelJackson

Jackson first visited Africa in 1974 at age 14;he and his brothers traveled to Senegal, inWest Africa. According to a recently releasedfilm covering the trip, while there, the group“performed specially written songs” andtoured the country.

At age 33 Michael returned to the Continent, where he traveled to Gabon, Ivory Coast, and other countries. At every stop the wildlypopular Jackson drew large and enthusiasticcrowds. In Gabon, the spectators were morenumerous than Nelson Mandela’s. And in theIvory Coast, Jackson’s crowds were largerthan those that came out for the Pope! During that trip, which was poorly reported inthe U.S., Jackson prioritised humanitarianacts for example visiting children in schoolsand the sick in hospitals.

There was a Scottish painter

named Smokey MacGregor who

was very interested in making a

penny where he could, so he

often thinned down his paint to

make it go a wee bit further. As it

happened, he got away with this

for some time, but eventually the

local church decided to do a big

restoration job on the outside of

one of their biggest buildings.

Smokey put in a bid and,

because his price was so low, he got the job.

So he set about erecting the scaffolding and

setting up the planks, and buying the paint

and yes, I am sorry to say, thinning it down

with turpentine.........

Well, Smokey was up on the scaffolding,

painting away, the job nearly

completed, when suddenly

there was a horrendous clap

of thunder, the sky opened

and the rain poured down

washing the thinned paint

from all over the church and

knocking Smokey clear off

the scaffold to land on the

lawn among the grave-

stones, surrounded by tell-

tale puddles of the thinned

and useless paint.

Smokey was no fool. He

knew this was a judgment

from the Almighty, so he got down on his

knees and cried:

"Oh God, Oh God, forgive me; what should I

do?"

And from the thunder, a mighty voice spoke.

(you're going to love this)

"Repaint! Repaint! And thin no more!"

'How was he killed?' asked one detective.

'With a golf gun,' the other detective replied.

'A golf gun! What is a golf gun?'

A hospital spokesman replied:

Benamargosa is a lively village that stands atthe heart of the Vélez-Málaga region anddates back to the 15th century to the time ofthe Moriscos, Moorish converts to Christian-ity. As you drive past Axarquia airport thescenery changes to a lush, tropical paradise, resplendently verdant with avocado andmango trees vying for attention betweenlemon and orange groves. The mostly dryriver bed winds its way past Triana villageuntil it comes to Benamargosa bridge,Puente de los diez ojos, so named becauseof the 10 arches or eyes. Usually dry the riverbed is used as a road for the farmers whowork the land on either side and the manyresidents who have houses dotted along itfrom Triana to Cútar. Most days you findgoats, mules, donkeys and horses lazilypassing along it. Just opposite the bridge arelovely gardens with an avenue of trees andflowers, a central fountain featuring 4 nakedgirls, a childrens play area and a municipalswimming pool with sunbathing area, childspool and cafeteria. The annual Fiesta delCampo erects a stage close to the bridgewhere performers entertain all night and visitors are offered Baticates, the local drinkof avocado, cinnamon and a host of secretingredients, followed later by an enormous

paella with beer and wine. There is also alarge, flat, municipal area used for everythingand anything including the annual Bull Fight. Also in the lower part of the village is theChurch of St. Mary of the Incarnation wherebaptisms took place as early as 1546. Thischurch has an interesting piece of architec-ture where a huge archway joins the churchto a neighbouring house! As you walk onwards and upwards throughthe village there are several long straightstreets and other more narrow ones thatweave their way across. There is a lovelysquare where the old town hall used to bewith a pretty fountain and some very oldhouses some of which have been beautifullyrenovated. Higher up are the gardens of SanSebastián with stone steps leading up andthrough a narrow passageway dividing twohouses, you can rest in these gardens as thetown hall have thoughtfully provided severalbenches. Attached to the new town hall is a 24 hourhealth clinic, a little further on is the villageschool and there are plenty of bars andrestaurants that serve healthy, local cuisine. This village is on the route of sun and avocados and is 37 kilometres from Málagaat a height of 100 metres. Market day isWednesday from 9am until 2pm and is heldin the car park by the bridge and even underthe bridge itself! To get to Benamargosa, turn off the A-356 atBar El Cruce at Trapiche on to the MA-145,through Triana.

The life of an inventor is not an easy one.First you have to come up with a goodidea that solves a problem in a way that noone has thought of before, and then youneed to design and engineer your idea totake it from theory to reality.

The very nature of invention means that inventors are continuously pushing theboundaries of what’s possible. This drive todiscover the next Big Thing has been a boonto humanity and has given us inventions likethe steam engine, the automobile and thepersonal computer. It's the major reason whywe're still not huddled in caves fighting offwolves and cowering at the crack of thunder. But invention is a fickle mistress and hasproved to be a dangerous undertaking formany a would-be Edison. Things go wrong, inventions break or don't work as the designers intended, and sometimes inventorsare killed by the very ideas they brought tolife. We've compiled some of the sad but fascinating stories of four inventors who diedat the hand of their inventions. We will printone each month. Let their stories serve aslessons for those of us who dream big.

No 1. The Flying Car Henry Smolinski Henry Smolinski was a Northrop-trained engineer who left his job to start AdvancedVehicle Engineers, a company focused onbringing a flying car to market. In 1973, thecompany built its first two prototypes made byfusing the rear end of a Cessna Skymasterairplane with a Ford Pinto. The tail sectionwas designed to be attached and detachedfrom the car. Smolinski was set to begin production for the retail market the next year, but on Sept. 11, 1973, he went on a test flightwith pilot Harold Blake and was killed, alongwith Blake, when a wing strut detached fromthe car. TheNationalTransportationSafety Boardruled that badwelds were responsiblefor the crash.(And it did involve aPinto).

Profile

Name: Colin Andrew Firth

Birthday: 10th September, 1960

Age: 53

Sign: Virgo

Birthplace: Grayshott, Hampshire,England

Facts about Colin Firth - Thisshouldn't come as a surprise, butColin Firth was named as one of thefifty most beautiful people in 2001.

While Colin Firth played Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones Diary, he actually appeared inthe sequel of the book. The author actuallywrote Colin Firth into the book.

Colin Firth has actually played the part of Mr.Darcy on three different occasions. In fact, hewas Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, BridgetJones Diary, and Bridget Jones: The Edge ofReason.

Colin Firth's first child, Will, was born in 1990

to his previous girlfriend Meg Tilly. He later

married Livia Giuggioli and his second child

Luca was born in 2001. His third child, Mateo

was born in 2003.

While many women

may find the name Colin

sexy, the actor isn't too

crazy about his name.

In fact he had this to

say about his first

name, "Well it doesn't

exactly have a ring to it,

does it? It's more the

sort of name you'd give

to your goldfish for a

joke."

According to Colin Firth,

when he was first of-

fered the role of Darcy,

his brother

incredulously remarked,

"Darcy? But isn't he

supposed to be sexy?"

Although he usually gets along quite well with

other actors, he had a well-publicised verbal

feud with Rupert Everett, although the source

of this tension is not known.

Colin had a relationship with Jennifer Ehle,

whom he met while filming "Pride and

Prejudice" (1995)

He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare

Company (RSC) in Stratford Upon Avon,

England, during the early to mid 80s where

his stage credits include such works as

Hamlet and King Lear.

Colin has twice lost his screen wife to a

member of the Fiennes family - to Ralph in

The English Patient (1996) and to Joseph in

Shakespeare in Love (1998).

Golf EthicsWhat if you were playing in the Club Championship Tournament Finals and thematch was halved at the end of 17 holes. Youhad the honour and hit your ball a modest250yds to the middle of the fairway, leaving asimple six iron to the pin. Your opponent thenhits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods.Being the gentleman that you are, you helpyour opponent look for his ball. Just beforethe permitted five minute search period ends, your opponent says: "Go ahead and hit your

second shot and if I don't find it in time, I'llconcede the match." You hit your ball, landingit on the green. You hear your opponet shout,"I found it!". The second sound you hear is aclick, the sound of a club striking a ball andthe ball comes sailing out of the woods andlands on the green, stopping no more than sixinches from the hole. Now here is the ethicaldilemma: Do you pull the cheating bastard’sball out of your pocket and confront him with itor do you keep your mouth shut?

Funny Pic :) What is the world coming to?!

Random JokePensioners fast minds..

Two businessmen in Cardiff were sitting downfor a break in their soon-to-be new shop...As yet, the shop wasn't ready, with only a fewshelves set up.One said to the other, "I bet any minute nowsome pensioner isgoing to walk by, puthis face to the win-dow, and ask whatwe're selling."No sooner were thewords out of hismouth when, sureenough, a curious oldwoman walked to thewindow, had a peek, and in a soft voice asked, "What are you sell-ing here?"One of the men replied sarcastically, "We'reselling a***-holes."Without skipping a beat, the old timer said,"Must be doing well...Only two left."

Pensioners -- don't mess with them!!!!!!

Carol, a blonde city girl, marries a Cornishdairy farmer. One morning, on his way out to check on thecows, farmer John says to Carol, 'The insemination man is coming over to impregnate one of our cows today. I drove anail into the rail above the cow's stall in thebarn. You show him where the cow is whenhe gets here, OK?'So then the farmer leaves for the fields. Aftera while, the insemination man arrives andknocks on the front door.Carol takes him down to the barn. They walkalong the row of cows and when she sees thenail, she tells him, 'This is the one...righthere.'Terribly impressed by what he seemed tothink just might be another ditzy blonde, theman asks,'Tell me lady, how did you know this is thecow to be bred?''That's simple; by the nail over its stall', Carolexplains very confidently. Then the man asks, 'What's the nail for?'She turns and starts to walk away and withcomplete confidence, says over her shoulder,'I assume it's to hang your trousers on.'------------------------------------------------------------A 7 year old and a 4 year old are upstairs intheir bedroom.'You know what?' says the 7 year old, 'I thinkit's about time we started swearing.'The 4 year old nods his head in approval, sothe 7 year old says, 'When we go downstairsfor breakfast I'm gonna swear first, then youswear after me, ok?''Ok' the 4 year old, agrees with enthusiasm..The mother walks into the kitchen and asksthe 7 year old what he wants for breakfast.'Oh, s*** mum, I don't know, I suppose I'llhave some Coco Pops'WHACK!! He flew out of his chair, tumbledacross the kitchen floor, got up, and ran upstairs crying his eyes out.She looked at the 4 year old and asked with astern voice, ' And what do YOU want forbreakfast, young man?''I don't know,' he blubbers, 'but it won't bef****** Coco Pops'.

One dark night outside a small town in Minnesota, a fire started inside the localchemical plant and in a blink of an eye it exploded into massive flames. The alarmwent out to all the fire departments for milesaround. When the volunteer fire fighters appeared onthe scene, the chemical company presidentrushed to the fire chief and said, "All our secret formulas are in the vault in the centreof the plant. They must be saved. I will give$50,000 to the fire department that bringsthem out intact."But the roaring flames held the firefighters off.Soon more fire departments had to be calledin as the situation became desperate. As thefiremen arrived, the president shouted outthat the offer was now $100,000 to the firedepartment who could bring out the company's secret files. From the distance, a lone siren was heard asanother fire truck came into sight. It was thenearby Norwegian rural township volunteerfire company composed mainly of Norwegians over the age of 65. To everyone's amazement, that little run-downfire engine roared right past all the newersleek engines that were parked outside theplant.Without even slowing down it drove straightinto the middle of the inferno. Outside, theother firemen watched as the Norwegian oldtimers jumped off right in the middle of the firefought it back on all sides. It was a performance and effort never seen before.Within a short time, the Norske old timers hadextinguished the fire and had saved the secret formulas. The grateful chemical company president announced that for sucha superhuman feat he was upping the rewardto $200,000, and walked over to personallythank each of the brave fire fighters. The local TV news reporter rushed in to capture the event on film, asking their chief,"What are you going to do with all thatmoney?""Vell," said Ole Larsen, the 70-year-old firechief, "Da first thing ve gonna do is fix dabrakes on dat Bloody truck!"
