Student Q & A (Updated Wkly.)

Student Spotlight: Jason Dunford

Previous School: WAMS

Something most people don’t know about him is…… I’m learning how to use code. Also, I enjoy working on computers and learning how they work.

What do you enjoy the most at AEC?

It’s the right size, and everything seems to work.

In what way is AEC different than the previous school that you attended?

People seem to be mature.

Tell me about something that you are currently studying?

I’m learning about the scientist that discovered the different moons and cataloged the stars.

What was the last book that you read? thoughts?

The Lord of the Flies; It is about these boys that get stranded on an island. They begin killing each other and lose their minds.

What was the last great idea that you had?

He wants to build a “gigantic” university in the middle of Taylorsville :)

AEC Staff Spotlight (Updated Mthly.) DeAnne Robbins

What do you do enjoy doing outside of school?

I love to read, walk, travel, and decorate my old house! I also enjoy doing things with my daughter and son on the weekends and watching British police shows on Netflix.

What was the last great idea that you had?

My last great idea was to work for an early college. I worked at Challenger when it opened for eight years. I grew and learned so much as a teacher!

When did you know that you wanted to work in education?

I realized when I was attending college that I wanted to teach. I was undecided for a year and then I realized that I could share my love of history with students! Plus, I enjoy working with teenagers.

What do you enjoy the most about AEC? I work with a dedicated staff who always put the students first and are enthusiastic about their jobs. I feel we are already a family, and we have the best students!

Who’s Whooo

Thank you! I am very grateful for the leadership and commitment that you have shown this school year. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and feedback. You have made a difference in the lives of our students.

Matriculation Review Board The first Matriculation Review Board mtg. is scheduled for Dec. 7th @ 1:10. This is a board that is facilitated by CVCC. The purpose of the board is to evaluate student performance with regard to academics and behavior.

Testing It’s that time of the year again. Please be sure to clear your classroom walls and take down anything blocking the door windows in your

classrooms. Also, you will need to collect cell phones, watches, and any other electronic devices that could cause a problem during test administration. I appreciate your willingness to do whatever it takes to make testing a success! I really want to thank Mrs. Ratchford for the countless hours that she has devoted toward testing this semester. It is largely due to her handwork that testing will go off without a hitch!

Focus Groups I feel that the focus groups have been a success this week. Even though there are a few students that don’t appreciate the groups, most of our students have expressed to many of you how much they enjoy the

focus groups. My hope is that the quiet atmosphere will grow on those students that may not support the focus groups right now. My plan is to continue with the focus groups next semester. Hopefully, we will see an increase in student performance.

LunchesMy fingers are crossed that we will be in our new facility sooner rather than later; however, in the meant time we will need to “tighten” up some of the policies and procedures for lunch . The trash cans have been moved to the hallway. Also, students will be dismissed by row to empty their trash. As the students exit to empty their trash, I will inspect their area to ensure that it has been cleaned properly.

Updates Please be sure to send any updates for the weekly updates to me asap.

AEC Continuous Improvement Plan Focus for the month:

GOAL 3- Shared Decision Making Staff take ownership of problem identification, solution generation, decision making and strategy implementation with support and guidance from administrators.

Goal 3 Guiding QuestionsHow has the school implemented structures and processes to ensure all adults assume ownership for the development of new solutions to meet school and individual needs and hold each other accountable to high standards for student success? How does the school provide opportunities for staff to build and demonstrate leadership skills? How do administrators and staff collaborate to systematically collect, analyze and use data to improve structures and processes within the school to support positive student outcomes?

Heads Up!!!!I

Be sure to remind your students that if they try to access anything other than the test on their Chromebooks during the EOC or NCFE, they will be kicked out of their testing session. Each time that this happens, the teacher will need to document the incident.

• Smile a little more, as this helps to think positively.

• Once a negative thought enters your mind, you have to be aware of it, and endeavor to replace it with a constructive one. If the negative thought returns, replace it again with a positive one. It is as if there are two pictures in front of you, and you have to choose to look at one of them, and disregard the other. Persistence will eventually teach your mind to think positively, and to ignore negative thoughts.

• In case you experience inner resistance and difficulties when replacing negative thoughts with positive ones, do not give up, but keep looking only at the beneficial, good and happy thoughts in your mind.

• It doesn't matter what your circumstances are at the present moment. Think positively, expect only favorable results and situations, and circumstances will change accordingly. If you persevere, you will transform the way your mind thinks. It might take some time for the changes to take place, but eventually they will.

• Another useful technique is the repetition of affirmations. This technique is similar to creative visualization, and can be used together with it.

The Power of Positive Thinking By Remez Sasson

With a positive attitude we experience pleasant and happy feelings. This brings brightness to the eyes, more energy, and happiness. Our whole being broadcasts good will, happiness and success. Even our health is affected in a beneficial way. We walk tall, our voice is more powerful, and our body language shows the way we feel.

Positive and negative thinking are contagious.

We affect, and are affected by the people we meet, in one way or another. This happens instinctively and on a subconscious level, through words, thoughts and feelings, and through body language.

Is it any wonder that we want to be around positive people, and prefer to avoid negative ones?

People are more disposed to help us, if we are positive, and they dislike and avoid anyone broadcasting negativity. Negative thoughts, words and attitude, create negative and unhappy feelings, moods and behavior. When the mind is negative, poisons are released into the blood, which cause more unhappiness and negativity. This is the way to failure, frustration and disappointment.

Positive Thinking Instructions and AdviceIn order to turn the mind toward the positive, some inner work is required, since attitude and thoughts do not change overnight.

• Read about this subject, think about its benefits, and persuade yourself to try it. The power of your thoughts is a mighty power that is always shaping your life. This shaping is usually done subconsciously, but it is possible to make the process a conscious one. Even if the idea seems strange, give it a try. You have nothing to lose, but only to gain.

• Ignore what other people say or think about you, if they discover that you are changing the way you think.

• Use your imagination to visualize only favorable and beneficial situations.

• Use positive words in your inner dialogues, or when talking with others.
