Goodbye to the JordansOn Friday November 26 1st Liphook Scout Group said goodbye to two trea-sured members of the Group. Theresa and Alan Jordan have lived in Li-phook for over 20 years will be moving away from the local area.

Arctic PostOn December 19th a team of vollenteers headed by Peters-field District Network Scouts battled through the arctic conditions to deliver Christmas cards in Liphook and Bramshott.

The annual Scout Christ-mas Post this year raised over £600 from the post boxes situated around the Village.

Helen & Adam Coyte braved a trip on the eve

of the delivery walking down to the post box at the Deers Hut to collect the cards and taking them back to Liphook Scouts headquaters at the millen-nium centre.

Boxes where situated at Sainsburys, Co-op, Ga-bles News, Route 6 Hair-dressers, Countrywide Stores,Hiscocks Pet Sup-plies, The Passfield Store.

A big thankyou to every-one who used the service and please carry on using it.

Dear All

Well we eventually moved, but it would not have

happened without the help of very good friends,

Bryan helped us pack our boxes into our van

on

Thursday evening and Nick and Jan helped us

move out of Liphook and into our new home. We

cannot thank them enough.

Take it from us after 25 years in one house with

5 rooms up stairs moving into a 3 bedroom cottage

is like pouring a quart into a pint pot it do

es not

work.

We were still unpacking boxes a week after moving

but have found our way to the local tip with nu-

merous empty ones and items for which we have no

room. Theresa rightly says that I am a hoarder,

but not any more!

We would like to say a heart felt thank you to

the whole Group for giving us such a magnificent

farewell. There is no way we can express our full

appreciation but if any of you are ever pass

ing

through Herefordshire please call in on us for a

cup of tea.

To say our cottage is quirky would be an under-

statement so we have a little list of jobs to progress

that should keep us busy until after my retire-

ment, but as I sit in our lounge in front of th

e

wood burning stove retirement can not come quickly

enough!

We now have our broadband working so can keep

in touch with the Group and follow your activities.

Our land line is also working but our mobiles do

not work in the cottage and we need to go up the

hill to get a signal.

We will be back in Liphook in February for a

week or so but in the mean time we wish you all a

very happy New Year.

Best wishes to you all

Theresa and Alan Jordan

TOOWOOMBA FLOODSAUSTRALIAN SCOUTS PROVIDE LINK BETWEEN FRIENDS

We all saw TV foot-age of the raging floods in the town of Too-woomba, near Bris-bane, Australia recently.

Well my friend Danny, with his wife Stacey and son Lachlan, live in Toowoomba. My family stayed with them there a few years ago. We were anxious to find out whether they were OK or whether their home had been washed away.

I sent e-mails and tried phoning with no re-sult. I trawled the in-ternet trying to find a way to find out about them and found the Too-woomba Scout website.

I was able to e-mail the Scouts and guess what – within 4 hours they had sent some-one round to Danny’s

house to check on him.

They found out he and his family are fine. Danny’s water dam had been washed away and some sheep from their family’s farm over the road were drowned. But they were OK. Dan-ny ‘phoned me today.

He says Toowoomba is making a remarkable re-covery. We are so grate-ful for the link across the world that Toowoom-ba Scouts provided – we’ve contacted them to say a big thank you.

Isn’t the world wide family of Scouting a wonderful thing.

On a Rainy Sunday Morning

It was a drizzly Sunday morn-ing for the remembrance ser-vice at St. Mary’s church in Bramshott, back in November.

However despite the rain there was a good turn out from both Scout troops as well as from Stirling Explorer Unit.

A beautiful service was given honouring British Soldiers who had died in not only World War 1 (1915-18) and World War 2 (1939 – 45), but those who had given their lives in numerous conflicts since and those who continue to do so in places like Afghanistan.

It was the turn of 1st Liphook to carry the union flag during the service. Robert Thurbon was the flag bearer and his Colour Party was Micheal and Matt.

Dom Gwilliam carried the Scout Flag and his Color Party was Chris Hains and Gareth Abbott.

Robert Ivens laid a wreath on behalf of the group during the ceremony.

A £40 Donation was given to The Brittish Leigon for the Wreath

2010: Another Great

year for 1st Liphook

An awful lot has gone on in the past year including some great camps, some sad depar-tures and fantastic fundraising events.

In 2010 we said goodbye to The-resa and Alan Jor-dan and Rowana Thurborn, the mem-bership secutary.

Wheatsheef Cub Pack not only lost their Ake-la but the much loved Uniformed leader Janet King, who has decided she would prefer, af-ter many years of hard work, to take a less tax-ing roll within the group.

Dick Eyre also Passed his role as Publicity of-ficer to become a Uni-formed Cub Leader in Downlands pack. The role of public-ity officer was given to Daniel Holden.

We have had much to celebrate this past year. Many Beavers have achieved their chief scout Bronze Awards and similarly many Cubs have achieved their Chief Scout Sil-ver Awards, these are the highest awards that can be achieved in the

respected sections.

Many leaders had their achievements recognized this year also. Shiela and Nigel Woods were presented with their wood beads.

Mike King, during the St. Georges day ser-vice at Churchers Col-lege, was awarded his long servie award for dedicating an amaz-ing 50 years to Scout-ing. Also awarded for long service was Alan Jordan for 20 years, Caroline Stephenson for 10years, Jan Har-ris for 10years service. The camps this year have been exception-al with the aviation themed cub camp, the Clown themed Beaver camp and the superb Medieval Scout Camp. Many thanks to all the leaders involved in all the camps for year of excellent camps.

Fundraising ensured the group can continue to run and that these camps can be as great as they have been. The fundraising this year has been exceptional with LIBDA, Classic Car Day, Race Night and the Scout Christmas Post.

2011 is not only the eve of 40 years of scouting in Liphook but is a very special year for Ashdown and Willow Beaver Collonies.

This year marks 25 years of Beavers within 1st Liphook. The occasion will marked with a Bea-ver Fun day that will be held in May.

Mary West helped set up and ran the first beaver colony in 1986. Currently Mark Stocker runs Ashdown Colony whilst Mark Boosey runs Willow.

Once again my apologies.

Every year 1st Liphook go all out for Liphook Carnival and this year was no excep-tion.

After many hours of hard work from many leaders and help-

ers the tractor and trailer was transformed into an excep-tional looking Viking Long-ship. The boys where then dressed up as fearsome Vi-king warriors.

After a mishap with a wind-surfing mast in 2007 , that forced the floats behind to stop while the mast was taken down in order to get under the overhead cable, this year the mast was made to measure at

thankfully made it under every power line.

The Carnival is huge fun for everyone involved and is also a chance to promote scouting in Liphook.

Birthday Book to be

published

Thanks to Trevor Holden, Akela for Oakhanger Cub Pack the group Ar-chives have now been organized.

Many have contributed to the Archive and the Group would like to thank them for all the photographs and memorabilia that have

been donated. A good many of these came from our Archive Afternoon that was held in September which was a very successful day.

A book will be released in 2012, writ-ten by Trevor, commemorating the first 40 years of 1st Liphook Scout Group.
