January 2019 Issue

The Savior of the Nations Has Come On Christmas Day we rejoiced with the shepherds, the angels, with Mary and Jo-

seph, with believers all the way back to Adam and Eve. Christ the Savior was born

to us in Bethlehem. As St. John phrased it, “the Word became flesh and made his

dwelling among us.” For the next nine weeks, we will behold his light and his glory

as he begins his ministry. Our faith-filled joy is that our Savior has come to work

and bring and do for us everything God has promised. Check out our schedule for

the next nine weeks and the blessings we will recount and enjoy because the Savior

of the nations has come.

Come and worship and let the Savior’s work bring out songs of praise in the new

year. Let it begin with a prayer of thanks like this one from Psalm 98.

1 Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things;

his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

2 The Lord has made his salvation known

and revealed his righteousness to the nations.

3 He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel;

all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

1/6/19 Mt 2:1-12 ...to be worshiped

1/13/19 Lk 3:15-17, 21,22 ...to be baptized

1/20/19 Jn 2:1-11 ...to work miracles

1/27/19 Lk 4:14-21 ...to preach good news

2/3/19 Lk 4:20-32 ...to be rejected

2/10/19 Lk 5:1-11 ...to send messengers

2/17/19 Lk 6:17-26 ...to bring blessing

2/24/19 Lk 6:27-38 ...to model love

3/3/19 Lk 9:28-36 ...prepare for his departure

CREW EVENT

CTL's CREW is invited to join our teen friends from Woodlawn, and St. John's 'Tosa for a glow in the dark dodgeball tournament. This event will happen on January 13 at 6:00 pm at Woodlawn's gym (Lamb of God's Gym - 2217 S 99th st). Cost is $5 per person and in-cludes glow sticks, snacks, and drinks. Please speak with Pastor Free if you are able to attend.

Church Operations | Board of Christian Education This is the fourth article in our series, authored by each Ministry Board Chairman, intended to help the mem-bers understand how our church operates internally to accomplish the work of the church in achieving its mis-sion “to give joy-filled glory to God in our worship, nurture and service.” This month’s article focuses on the Board of Christian Education.

The Board of Christian Education (BOCE) is responsible in overseeing and promoting all educational agencies of the congregation for children and adults. The board serves as the governing body of the Lutheran Elementary School (LES). The Principal is also an ex-officio member of the board.

There are currently five members on the BOCE, including the chairman. Each of the members besides the chairman are asked to serve on the board for one-year terms. The current members are KC Kneser, John Kolander, Joe Luedke and Brad Naumann. The chairman is an elected position for a two-year term on the church council.

The BOCE has general oversight over CTL's church educa-tional ministries. These ministries include: Sunday/Thursday Bible Class, 7th and 8th grade catechism class, Sunday School, and CREW. The Board works closely with the Pastors and other volunteers to ensure that these edu-cational ministries are opportunities to further grow and nurture the Christian education of our CTL family.

The BOCE has general oversight of the LES. Some of the areas it is involved with are as follows:

1. Organize and approve the yearly school calendar.

2. Manage and approve school fees which are used for school maintenance, field trips, technology and curriculum upgrades, etc..

3. Survey school families at the end of each year with the purpose of improving and enhancing the LES program.

4. Work each year to ensure CTL is up-to-date with all the necessary accreditation goals and stand ards.

5. Partner with the faculty and staff to promote CTL’s mission of a church and school.

Over the past twelve months, the BOCE has focused on special projects including calls for the openings in the LES (3rd and 4th grade teacher, Preschool and Principal/7th and 8th grade teacher) and reviewing Human Resources documents, such as a Faculty/Staff handbook.

If you have any comments, questions or concerns about the Sunday morning educational opportunities or the LES, we as a BOCE encourage you to speak to us about them. Any member would be happy to hear your comments and provide answers to your questions.
