Our trip to the Savanna Grasslands in Serengeti

• My school Codrington went on a trip to Serengeti to get a better look on the Grasslands for our new unit about Ecosystems. Our Teacher Mr. Piers gave us a task to use 7 of our pictures from the trip and annotate them, to help us get an even better view on ecosystems in on small levels we were not paying attention to or did not notice at the moment.

Serengeti

• Serengeti has been a National Park since 1951 about 60 years. But before Serengeti became a National Park it used to be a hunting ground for Elephants and other big game animals, and is still a place for nomadic herders and small villages. Now Serengeti National park has an abundance, containing animals like Impala and Elephants, Zebras, Tigers and many many more amazing animals. Serengeti has never been a more beautiful place so pack full of so many different types of animals.

Photo 1The dry grass informs us of the dry Season

All these animals are so near to each other for protection. Their tough skin allows them to be hard to kill and their horns allow them to ram their attackers

The trees are farther down in the back ground because when it rains the water runs over the ground into the small valley.

The tree has small leaves so it does not use as much water, and it absorbs just enough in the rainy season and does not need a lot in the dry season

Since the grass is green we are able to tell that it is the rainy season at the moment

The Animals are crowded around the tree for the shade and to stay in a group to stay protected from predators even with different species

Few Acacia treesi ndicates abundance of animals that use this tree as there primary food source

Wildebeest are in abundance as seen but they use grass as their primary diet which they have to eat a great deal of for their stomachs to be bulging or full. This can cause a threat to the other local wild life.

This Elephant is knocking down the tree so it is able to eat the leaves that are farther than it can reach.

We are able to tell that it is the dry season because of the dead dry grass surrounding the elephant

The Lioness is in wait for one of the zebras to come a bit closer so it can pounce and have it’s meal

The zebras are in a pack so they are able to protect their selves against predators

The Giraphes use their height to get to the high branches in trees that smaller animals are not able to reach

You can see that it is about to rain from the dark rain clouds.
