Principal’s Message—Mme Marla Tonita
Bonjour, bon re-
tour, et bienvenue! Wow,
the first days of school
have gone by so quickly,
as we have been welco-
ming both new and re-
turning students into our
school! With only 3 days
of school the first week
and 4 days of school last
week, we are looking
forward to getting into the
routine of things in the
weeks to come!
Along with our
new students and families,
we also welcome several
new staff members this
year. We are so pleased to
have the following new
teachers join our school:
Mme LaBrie: 9E
(teaching mostly gr 9
French Immersion math et
sciences)
Miss Jensen: 9D
(teaching mostly gr 9 Eng-
lish math and science)
Mme Manseau:
7E (teaching mostly gr 7
French Immersion math et
sciences)
Mr. Leeb: 8C
(teaching mostly gr 8 Eng-
lish math and science)
We will be holding an in-
formal Meet the Teacher
Evening on Tuesday, Sep-
tember 15 from 5:30-7
p.m. where parents are
welcome to drop by, wan-
der through the school, and
meet the teachers. We
recognize that parents are
so incredibly important in
all aspects of their chil-
dren’s lives, and this cer-
tainly includes their school
lives. We encourage you
to communicate regularly
with our teachers regarding
your children, as with open
communication, students
feel much more comforta-
ble at school and achieve
so much more!
As part of the
Meet the Teacher Evening,
we will also be holding a
brief information session
regarding our new FLEX
programming. If you are
interested in learning about
what we mean by FLEX
and how it will affect your
children, please feel free to
join us at 6:30 p.m!
Following the
Meet the Teacher Evening,
all parents are also invited
to join the first School
Council meeting of the
2015-2015 school year.
This is a great opportunity
to meet other parents in the
school, to learn about vari-
ous aspects of education in
our school as well as local-
ly and provincially, to have
input into what is dis-
cussed at these meetings,
and to have your voices
heard. All are welcome at
7:30 pm, Tuesday, Sep-
tember 15 in our staff
room!
On vous souhaite
une année merveilleuse!
We wish each of
our students and families a
wonderful fall and a fabu-
lous school year!

Black Gold School Division has revamped their school emergency protocols to ensure the safety
of our students and staff. Through the assistance of the Hour Zero School Emergency pro-
gram, protocols and procedures have been well-defined to build a culture of preparedness in an
event of an emergency. Throughout the year, we will be practicing a variety of functional proto-
cols to ensure the safety of all.

École J.E. Lapointe is a scent sensitive school. We have students and staff
members who have severe reactions (bronchoconstriction) that result in
breathing difficulty, swelling of the throat and vocal cords, as well as diz-
ziness, itchy eyes and headaches. Bronchoconstriction is caused by expo-
sure to perfumes, air fresheners, bug spray, sun screen, and other heavily
scented products such as hair sprays, gels and deodorants. Canada’s
SPEIACE, suggests that ‘fragrance users are strongly encouraged to be
courteous and respectful in their use of fragrance and to keep the fra-
grance within their personal “scent circle”, about an arm’s length away.’
We would ask that you ensure that your child is not wearing any form of
these strong scents that could trigger these reactions. Your cooperation in
educating your family with regard to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Last spring, three brave French Immersion students partici-
pated in the Concours d’art oratoire, a French-language speech arts competition at École Coloniale Estates School. Emma Cooper, Natalie Horvat, and Stuart MacLellan chose the topics for their speeches, which they presented to an audience of students, teachers, and judges. Congratulations to Emma, Natalie, and Stuart for their brave contribution, and to Natalie for placing as one of three winners of the competition. Bravo!
Concours d’art oratoire,
Picture Day Student and Staff Picture Day will be on Friday, October 2nd. Be

Sabres Support The Run for the Cure!
After a year off, our team of Sabres will be returning to the CIBC Run for the Cure in hopes of
making a difference. On Sunday, October 4th, our team, #SabresSquad, will run or walk 5km to
raise funds for breast cancer research.
This year’s event, more than any other, is a student-driven initiative. It was our students who ap-
proached (and pressured) staff to organize this event. We are proud to see that the students of
École J.E. Lapointe School are ethical citizens with strong character, and are looking to make a
positive change for all of us.
If you are interested in donating to the team and helping us reach our modest goal of $1500,
