Gnarled Oak CardiganAlana Dakos, of Never Not Knitting fame, loves to design knitwear with lavish botanical embellishments. This one piece cardigan begins at the bottom with lots of simple knitting and ends with some very challenging knitting. A garland of oak leaves graces the yoke of this beautiful sweater. Experienced cable knitters will enjoy the clever use of beyond the basics cable techniques used to create the oak leaves.

Irish Aran CrewGraduates of our first two Irish Aran classes, the scarf and the hat, are ready to begin their first Aran sweater project, a crew neck pullover. This unisex sweater is done in the Carroll family pattern. Debbie has traveled extensively to Ireland and will teach you the precise ways that all the details are managed as she learned from her Irish knitting mentor, Rosaleen Hegarty.

Pinna Pompon ScarfMany customers have enjoyed knitting and wearing the original version of the Pinna Pompon Scarf done in worsted weight yarn. This scarf used four colors worked in pin stripes. It’s a whimsical design with knitted fringes and a bobble bind off. A customer (thank you Peggy from Ohio!) showed us how great this design works up at a smaller scale and with lighter weight yarn. Our new version is done in Classic Elite Fresco. In class we’ll learn navigational skills and master the knitted cast on and modified conventional bind off to make the knitted fringes quick, efficient, and enjoyable to knit.

EnterNorah Gaughan’s Enter pullover is fun to knit and fun to wear. This T-shaped garment has just two pieces, the front and the back. A simple yarn over, knit two together lace worked on the diagonal gives the garment shape and drape. It can be worked in wool rich yarns such as Berroco’s tweedy new yarn, Colora. Or choose a summery yarn, such as Berroco’s Fuji. This design is much easier to knit that it would appear. The basic lace pattern is very easy to memorize. It is also surprising forgiving of slight variations in gauge.

Noro Corded VestKate loves to help people be successful with their first real sweater project. She is always on the lookout for suitable designs and loves to help her students with the finishing details that make all the difference. This vest design worked in Noro Silk Garden meets her high standards. It caught her eye because of the sophisticated touches like the corded edgings and button loops.

Felted Yarn BowlWant an unbreakable, light weight yarn bowl that conveniently squishes to fit in your project bag? Susan has created a pattern for a knitted and felted yarn bowl that will do just that. You’ll begin on double pointed needles at the center bottom of the bowl. Then you’ll work on circular needles to create the bowl shape. After the bowl is felted down in the washing machine, you’ll cut the slot to guide your knitting yarn for smooth knitting.

Mrs. Watson2015 is the 10th aniversary of Berroco’s Ultra Alpaca family of yarns. Portfolio Volume 1 celebrates that event with a gallery of beautiful designs to knit. The Mrs. Watson scarf / shawl gives you a chance to work on two important skills, short rows and yarn tail management. Wave like shapes are created by short rows worked in the contrast color. Heidi will help you with navigational skills for keeping track of those short rows. Frequent color changes will mean that you will have lots and lots of yarn tails. Heidi will teach you a great way to work in those tail as you go so there will be minimal finishing after you’ve cast off your last stitch. Wednesday
