Dear Rosa Lee Carter Families,

I want to welcome all our students back for another rewarding school year at Rosa Lee Carter. We look forward to an exciting year as we build upon our present initiatives such as Project Based Learning, STEM, BYOT, Response to Interventions and Personalized Learning.

We are thrilled to announce that Rosa Lee Carter has been selected to receive the 2016-2017 Virginia Index of Performance Board of educa-tion Excellence Award. A school receives this distinguished award for being fully accredited and for making significant progress toward edu-cational goals established by the Board of Education and the governor.

Rosa Lee Carter’s students continue to excel with Virginia Standards of Learning. This is due to a strong commitment from our staff for excel-lence and our families unwavering dedication to education. Truly, the success of our students is due to our partnership.

Teachers are working diligently to teach routines and expectations these first few weeks of school. We ask that you reinforce our expectations at home, as you converse with your children about the day’s events.

Classroom teachers will be sending home weekly updates as to communi-cate not only behavior expectations but also academic work assigned for your student.

We look forward to a very productive year and please know I am here to not only serve our students but the community as a whole.

We wish your child the very best this year.

Warm regards,

Principal Ann Y. Hines

Welcome back! In late August and all of September, the PE program at

Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School is going to emphasize rules/procedures, loco-

motor movements, throwing/catching, cooperation activities and the five

components of fitness along with the five intensity levels. The fourth and fifth

graders will participate in the Fitness-gram testing program. We believe as a PE

department that the process of participating regularly in a physically active lifestyle

will lead to personal enjoyment, challenge, satisfaction, and a healthy mind and

body. We will emphasize to our students to give their very best effort and show

good sportsmanship in all they do in PE class.

Welcome back to a new school year! We hope your children are excited about

returning to school. This is Ms. Sherline’s first year at Rosa Lee Carter and Mr. Hak is

back for his 8th school year here.

Starting in September, we will have lunch bunches with students new to Rosa Lee

Carter. Mr. Hak and Ms. Sherline will visit each classroom and teach lessons on

respect, listening, and manners during the month of September.

Additionally, we meet with children individually and in groups to help foster

leadership, develop anger management skills, help students deal with loss, family

concerns, and teamwork. Our focus is on three domains: academic, career, and the

personal/social development of every student.

Here’s to a wonderful 2017-2018 School Year!

GREETINGS FROM THE LIBRARY!

We are so excited to have our students back in the library again. Hopefully they

had a fun and relaxing summer and are energized for the new school year.

Students in Grades K-2 will visit the library weekly for story times, lessons, and book

checkout. Students in Grades 3-5 will visit the library weekly with their class to check

out books, but they will also have the opportunity to come to the library individually

anytime during the week to check out new books when needed. In addition, our

upper grade students will use the library throughout the year for assistance with

research, class assignments, projects, technology use, STEM lessons, and more.

Follow us on Twitter to find out the latest happenings in the library @RLC_Library!

If any parents or guardians are looking for volunteer opportunities within our school,

we would ask you to consider donating an hour or two of your time to assisting us in

the library with shelving books and other needed tasks. We would be extremely

grateful for any time you could give us, but we have a particular need for

volunteers on Fridays. If you might be interested, please contact Mrs. Boettke at

[email protected] for more information. No experience necessary!

common The Loudoun county Public Schools Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)

works with the school board, Administrators, Parents, and Teachers who are

responsible for students receiving special education services.

SEAC helps you understand how to work with LCPS and your school to meet the

special education needs of your child. SEAC monthly meetings address issues of

importance to the SPED community. Issues are raised by parents, teachers,

administrators and others through a public comment process. Meetings also

include presentations intended to provide a forum to identify, discuss and share

information pertaining to areas of need and progress for the SPED community.

By attending meetings, you:

• Receive information to assist you in becoming a partner in

your student’s education;

• Network with other parents of students with disabilities, as well

as education professionals to gain information and support; and

• Offer input to help inform the policy and program decisions in

the continuous improvement of special education and other

related services in Loudoun County.
