HOMESThe rich Romans had different

houses to the poor Romans. The rich Romans lived in villas. An insula was an apartment block. The top of an insula was made of

wood and the bottom was made of stone. The rich Romans lived at

the bottom of it and the poor Romans lived in the top of it. Villas

were lived in by rich Romans.

ROMULUS AND

REMUSRomulus and Remus were twins. They were thrown into the River Tiber by their mean uncle. They were found by a she-wolf by the

River Tiber. A Shepherd found them they stayed with him until they were young men. They started to build a city. One day, Romulus got mad at Remus and he threw a rock at him. Romulus had killed him. The city was named Rome after Romulus.

ENTERTAINMENT

The romans had many ways of entertaining themselves. They went to watch fighting at the amphitheatre. They

also liked going to baths. In the bath they would sweat off dirt , scrape themselves with a strigil ( a metal stick) and have a cool swim. They also enjoyed hunting and board games. The romans brought deer to England

The Romans were the most powerful army in the world. The army was made of legions, legions had 6,000 legionaries . They wore chainmail armour and had a shield. They fought in lines and people from outside Italy fought in the front lines.

FOOD

The Romans ate lots of food, food like ours and food that is odd. The poor people ate mostly vegetables,

porridge and sometimes, bread, fish, olives and meat. The rich people had

huge banquets to show how rich they were. The weirder the food, the richer they appeared. Some people

stuffed chickens inside ducks, ducks into pigs and pigs into cows.

GODS/GODDESSES

The king of the gods was named Jupiter . The

daughter of Jupiter was named Minerva . March

is named after her. Janus was a god with two

heads. January is named after him. Neptune is the god of the sea the

planet Neptune is named after him.

POMPEIIOn the 24th August 79 AD the

people of pompeii were doing their daily jobs. Then there was a sudden rumble that damaged a few homes. Suddenly day turned to night and

lava and ash flew out of Mount Vesuvius. Pompeii was buried. 1700 years later a man was digging in his garden and uncovered the city. We

learnt a lot from the city.

CLOTHES AND FASHION

Roman fashion changed in the years. Most people just wore tunics with a toga over them . People wore

jewellery all over their bodies . Some women wore wigs. Men

sometimes oiled and curled their hair. Some people wore a palla.

Women wore jewellery like bracelets, earrings, necklaces

and anklets.

THE EMPIRE ENDS

After Julius Caesar died, the Roman empire grew. They took over most of Europe, even England. The empire

was at its biggest when emperor Trajon ruled. Under

Roman rule, life was good for some. Soon it got out of

control, and the empire broke!!!!!
