    All this happened

    two thousand seven

    hundred years ago.

    People before theCelts became

    known as Britons

    and they weregrouped in tribes.

    In the beginning, the Romans didnt want toconquer Britain because the British tribes werealways waiting to fight

    the Romans onthe beach.

    Finally Julius Caesar

    decided to attack them

    with an army of 10,000 men.

    Given that the British tribes had helped the

    Celts in Europe, the Romans punished them

    with an invasion. The Romans strength causedthe Britons defeat. After the Romans victory,

    Caesar left and didnt go back to Britain for

    ninety seven years.

    In AD 43, Claudius, the Roman Emperor,wanted his army to go to Britain to make it partof the Roman Empire. They achieved theirobjective with alliances. The Britons took

    refuge from the Romans in the mountains ofWales and Scotland.

    and many goddesses.Their holy places werethe new temples thatthey had built. They

    also worshippedemperors as gods.Finally Christianity

    replaced polytheism.

    Raiders who made attacks on Britain, Saxon

    pirates and Barbarians who attacked theRoman Empire caused that the Romans

    couldnt keep Britain safe, and left to defendother parts of the Empire. Then Britons

    returned to their old way of life.
