Saint Patrick Parish is a Christian community of disciples in the Roman Catholic tradition, called by Jesus, united in Eucharistic worship and growing in faith, hope and love. Nourished through the sacraments and strengthened by God’s transforming love, we are empowered to know the gospel message and to bear witness to others. As Christian stewards, we are thankful for God’s many gifts and we commit ourselves to share our time, talent and treasure in Christ-like service within our parish com-munity and beyond. We seek God’s blessing and guidance to be faithful to this mission.
MISSION STATEMENT
THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Confessions are heard on Saturday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:15 PM and anytime upon reasonable request. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:00 PM. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism seminar class on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Religious Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 PM. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the stages of the Rite of Christian Initiation. RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to enter the Catholic Faith, or for present Catholic individuals who after being baptized need to receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. For more information, please call our Parish Office. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Since Catholic marriage requires a time of preparation, arrangements should begin at least six months before the proposed date of the wedding to allow for the Marriage Preparation Program and Natural Family Planning (NFP). PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or home-bound, call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of recon-ciliation, communion and anointing at home. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at Mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONERS: The Saint Patrick faith community warmly welcomes you! Please introduce yourself to the celebrant of the mass you are attending as you leave the church so that, on behalf of the entire community, you may be welcomed. You can register at the parish office and receive any information needed from the office receptionist.

JULY 17, 2016
SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Genesis 18:1-10a The Lord appeared to Abraham, who saw three men standing near his tent. Sensing they were messengers, he hurriedly brought them food and water to refresh themselves. Upon leaving, the men told him that they would visit in a year, at which time his childless wife Sarah would have a son. Second Reading: Colossians 1:24-28 Paul discusses the suffering Christ endured for his Church. He describes his willingness to also endure suffering in Jesus' name. Paul hopes that through his sacrifices, many people will become complete in Jesus. Gospel: Luke 10:38-42 Jesus was welcomed into the home of a woman named Martha. She complained to Jesus that her sister Mary sat listening to him instead of helping with the tasks of entertaining. Jesus told Martha that her sister had chosen the more important task, and should be allowed to listen.

From the desk of Fr. Charlie Dear friends in Christ,
This weekend, we welcome to Saint Patrick’s representatives of The Corona Self-Help Center, Inc., also known as Drogadictos Anonimos. This organization has roots in Mexico, where they began by working with individuals and families who were suffering with substance abuse problems. This organization has the support of the bishops of Mexico and a number of bishops here in the United States, including our own archbishop, Cardinal Dolan. The Corona Self-Help Center provides recovery programs and residential centers for those most in need, especially in Latino communities. All of the representatives are former drug addicts themselves, who have found a new life because of the good work done by this organization. Many of you have probably heard on the news about the rise of drug use here in Orange County, as well as in Sullivan County and Ulster County. The statistics are very frightening – the number of youth who are abusing prescription medications, the rise in the number of deaths resulting from drug overdose, and the rise of the use of heroin as the “drug of choice” among addicts. We are reminded the teachings of the Church about the sacredness of human life. We read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense. Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law.” (Paragraph #2291) We pray for the continued good work of The Corona Self-Help Center and we especially pray through the intercession of Saint Maximilian Kolbe (the patron saint of drug addicts) for an end to the abuse of drugs, especially here in our own area.
In other news, I am very sad to announce that Father Emmanuel Anyansi will be leaving us. I am very grateful to Father Emmanuel for all the work that he has done here at Saint Patrick’s, especially in the months that I was away from the parish. Father Emmanuel is going to another Saint Patrick’s Church – this one in Yorktown Heights in Northern Westchester County. We pray for Father Emmanuel, that God will continue to bless him and his priesthood. We will miss him! I am happy to announce that Father Joseph Tyrrell has been appointed to Saint Patrick’s as our new parochial vicar. Father Tyrrell was ordained in 1989 and is coming to us from Saint Peter’s Church in lower Manhattan. Please join me in welcoming Father Tyrrell to his new home! God bless you! Father Charlie

St. Patrick’s Vacation Bible School 2016
Our VBS week was wonderful. Over 200 students and 170 volunteers enjoyed bible stories, games, crafts, music, smoothies, and more during an action-packed week. Our 5th grade led our annual mission project. Through daily bake sales and coin drops they raised $2300 for the American Red Cross. We extend many thanks to Jay’s Deli, Amalfi Pizzeria and Mario’s Restaurant for their generous pizza donations. Clean-up was swift and sure because our team was well-fed! We offer special thanks to Fr. Charlie Szivos for supporting the VBS program. And to all the St. Patrick’s parishioners who gave so generously to our mission project and who prayed for us during the week, we extend our deepest appreciation. The Lord truly is great and awesome.
