FROM THE DESK OF FATHER DINGA It’s hard to believe we have arrived at the beginning of another liturgical year. As we enter into the Ad-vent/ Christmas cycle, please take note of the bulle-tin insert this weekend which details the times and locations of the various liturgies during these holy seasons. This insert is also posted on our partner parish website and Facebook page for those who only receive the bulletin via email. Let us take ad-vantage of the opportunity to begin anew our call to grow in holiness during these holiest of days and extend the invitation for others to join us in this grace- filled effort. The Prophet Isaiah, from whom we will hear quite frequently during the Advent and Christmas sea-sons, cries out to the Most High: “Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down.” The deep-est cry of the human heart is for union with God, that all the distance and separation from him would be overcome. In Advent, the Church recognizes that God answers that prayer: first, in the Incarnation of his Son, and at the end of time when he returns in majesty. Both comings of Christ reveal that, in the words of St. Paul to the Corinthians, “God is faithful and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ.” Then there is also the “in-between coming” in which we live now, as we strive to welcome the Lord into our hearts each day through our encounters with him through our faith and the sacraments of the Church and in one another. We are to spend our lives “watching,” therefore, because we desire to be found irreproachable and to spend our days in ardent hope for the full revelation of our Lord when we will see his face and be saved. Now more than ever is the time for us to take this call seriously and to not allow ourselves to be over-come by the fear and uncertainty that currently sur-rounds us in our country and in our world. May we place our hope and our trust in the One who alone can bring true and lasting peace through the coming of his Son into our lives once again. Let us rejoice that Emmanuel, God-with-us, has truly come, is with us now, and will come again one day to bring to himself all who remain faithful, watchful and ready.

St. John Ministry of Care

We know that everyone has a “bad day” or “gloomy day”. But isn’t it nice when you re-ceive your mail for the day that an unexpected card is there from someone and it brightens up your day? We have what we

call at St. John ,“shut-ins”. These are members of our parish family who are unable to come to church because of health issues and do not get to see or speak to many people. We have started to reach out to these members by sending them “thinking of you cards” or even a short personal note to let them know we are keeping in touch and giving them a “ray of sunshine” for the day. If anyone is interest-ed in this thoughtful way of giving to our members, please contact pat Darbous at 724-539-9500.

Jeremiah Days Jeremiah Days is an opportunity for middle school-aged boys and their parents or guardians to gather to learn, discuss and pray about a vocation to the priesthood. The group will bee on the following days: February 20 and April 17 from 9:30am to 11:30am at St. Barbara Parish, Harrison City. To register, visit gbgvocations.org.

St. John the Evangelist — Angel Sale A collection of angels has been donated to St. John the Evangelist from the Estate of Flo Palasta. The angels will be on display in the gathering area of St. John the weekends of November 28/29 and December 5/6. We all have our guardian angels watching over us always and so it would be nice to have one of Flo’s angels watching over us in our homes. The new address for Flo is the care home where she is currently Living: Tore’s Home 43 Tore’s Drive, East Flat Rock, NC 28726. The Accent On-Air” presents “Christmas Traditions” on WTAE-TV at 11:30am on Sundays, November 29 and December 6. Slovak, Italian, German and Filipi-no Christmas traditions will be features. This episode includes Msgr. Kulick’s message that “Advent is Still Ours”, Msgr.
