THE PURPOSE OF UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a create supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Greetings to the members of the Atlanta College Park District UMW!!!! First and foremost, I hope and trust that all of you are keeping well. These are treacherous days as COVID-19 continues to spread. Therefore, most of our church buildings are still closed for worship and other activities. However, our witness to each other and to our communities is alive and well. The same is true for our United Methodist Women’s work. Under the auspices of the North Georgia Conference UMW, we are now preparing for the transition from our Atlanta College Park District UMW to the North Central District UMW which is made up of churches in Fulton and Clayton counties. Steering and nominations committee members have been identified and are busy working to usher in a new day in early 2021. Efforts are being made for full representation from across the new district. In the meantime, please stay tuned for a final Annual Meeting of our Atlanta College Park District. The date is Sunday, October 25, 2020 and the program will be held virtually. When the Executive Committee meets in September, plans will be finalized for a jubilant celebration. The North Georgia Conference Annual will be held virtually on Saturday, October 3, 2020. All pertinent information will be sent to the presidents of our district so that we may participate in this time together as a conference. Officers for 2021 will be installed at that time. The novel coronavirus has forced us to operate differently. Yet, we are the children of God and we know that He remains present in our lives and activities. As your outgoing district president, I send love, gratitude, and admiration to each of you. Sincerely, Addie P. Shopshire-Rolle, Ph.D. Note: We express sincere condolences to our Communications Chair, Catherine Hart, on the recent loss of her daughter, Karin Hart. We pray that God will strengthen Catherine and her family during this difficult time.

7 Cardinal Rules of Life
1. Make peace with your past so it
won’t mess up the present. 2. What others think of you is
none of your business. 3. Time heals almost everything; give it time. 4. Don’t compare your life to others and don’t judge them.
You have no idea what their journey is all about. 5. Stop thinking too much. It’s
all right not to know the answers. They will come to you when you least expect it. 6. No one is in charge of your
happiness, except you. 7. Smile. You don’t own all the
problems in the world.

HOOSIER MEMORIAL UMW CELEBRATES WOMEN’S DAY Mary Stamper-Murray/President UMW
Women’s Day 2020 at Hoosier under the leadership of United Methodist Women was abruptly
disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As we were advised by the conference to suspend church
services, the women were concerned about how we would “do” Women’s Day this year. Obviously,
we could not participate in the activities leading up to the culmination of our Women’s Day
worship celebration on April 26.
The women chose the theme: “Hoosier Women Serving as Lights in the World.” We still wanted to
exemplify this spirit despite the challenges present. How could we serve as lights in the world? We
chose to continue to hold meetings via conference calls, zoom meetings and regular
communication through e-mails.
Women’s Day at Hoosier is also an important fund-raising event to support the church’s annual
operating budget. The 2020 goal was $20,000.00. But how could we meet our goal without our
usual activities and not being able to promote our efforts in person?
Here is how we did it:
The women of Hoosier worked together for a common cause and did not allow obstacles to stand
in our way.
Despite these challenges, the women of Hoosier not only met, but also surpassed our $20,000.00
goal by raising $20,175.00!
We were determined to not only serve as lights in the world, but also to let our light shine so that
others may see the good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
