The artwork highlighted here is the product of local teens’ reflections on The Grapes of Wrath. Even though the calendar inside shows more than 90 public programs, this is only a portion of what is happening during The Poughkeepsie Read. All of our local high schools, many private book clubs, Center for Lifetime Study adult students, BOCES Adult Learning students, individuals incarcerated at Green Haven Correctional, migrant farm worker children, and SPARK Media students will focus on the Steinbeck novels this fall, all of which are likely to produce many lively discussions and fascinating essays. Several middle school classes and book groups are reading the dynamic poetic work by Karen Hesse, Out of the Dust . The diversity is astonishing, a credit to the many hours of planning over the past year on the part of dedicated partners.
