Recent additions to the city of Poughkeepsie have people believing that Poughkeepsie is a city on the rise. The newly developed “Walkway Over the Hudson,” has people coming to Poughkeepsie, but are these people spending money here and helping to improve the economy?
Many buildings and real estate developments continue to crumble. It has been said that a chain is only has good as it’s weakest link, so while some parts of Poughkeepsie begin to rise, others continue to sink.
Many roads look run down and there are many abandon lots and buildings that are just littered with trash. These lots are unsafe for children to play because of things that children can severally harm themselves on. We need safer places for our children to play and grow up.
The school systems of Poughkeepsie are not the strongest in the state of New York. Children are the future of this city, state, country and world. Our school systems must improve in order to better our children which will eventually better Poughkeepsie.
Newer buildings have been built on Main St., in an attempt to give the city of Poughkeepsie a face lift and perhaps attract more people to visit the city and spend money here. Will these new businesses be able to last, or will there new buildings eventually turn into another “for rent” building that seem to be everywhere in Poughkeepsie?
In the end, it is up to the people of the city of Poughkeepsie to improve their home. The best way to do that is to take action, go vote and elect people that will work to improve Poughkeepsie. They must improve the city in everyway: economy, school systems, real estate, etc.
