Dear Parents and Carers Visit from Parents Victoria We are very fortunate to have Gail McHardy (Parents Victoria, Executive Officer) visit our school on Wednesday, September 13th from 12.00pm – 1.30pm. Parents Victoria is a state wide democratic organisation representing parents of students in Victorian government schools. Parents Victoria provides parents with a voice, presenting an organised parent perspective to State and Federal Governments, educational bureaucracies and institutions, community organisations and the media. Gail has worked tirelessly as an advocate for positive parent/school relationships over a number of years. During her visit to our school, she will talk about the role of parent groups within schools and will talk about ways of strengthening parent involvement. I would strongly encourage parents to come along and hear Gail. I would love to build on our parent involvement and have people feel that they can contribute and be involved in their child’s education. Please see the attached flyer for further details. For catering purposes, it would be appreciated if you would contact the school if you are planning to attend. Chinese Student Host Family and Overseas Learning Experience – Information Evening Preparation is underway for the 2018 Overseas Learning Experience (OSLE) to China. This opportunity is open to students in Year 5 and Year 6. I encourage you to read the information attached to the newsletter today to find out more about this program. An information session will be held at Specimen Hill Primary School on Thursday September 7th from 7:45pm – 8:30pm. Prior to the OSLE session, there will be a meeting for the families that are hosting our three Chinese students and their accompanying teacher in Term 4 this year. This session starts at 7:00pm through to 7:40pm. More information about this meeting is attached to today’s newsletter. Congratulations At the Business Managers Conference last Friday, Narelle Jones was successful in obtaining a Funding and Finance Scholarship to do further study through Deakin University later this year. This is a wonderful opportunity for Narelle, and is well deserved. Well done. Father’s Day Stall On Friday, our PFA is holding its annual Father’s Day stall. Students are encouraged to bring $2.00 along to buy their father or special friend a gift. A big thank you is extended to our PFA for the work they have done in making this available to our students. More details about the event follow in the newsletter. Pupil Free Day School Council has approved a Curriculum Day for Quarry Hill PS on Wednesday, September 6th. The school is looking to introduce Essential Assessment. Essential Assessment is a leading provider of the Australian Curriculum, Victorian Curriculum and NSW Syllabus Numeracy and Literacy assessment model. The Victorian Curriculum assessment subscription is a complete whole school summative and formative model that allows schools to deliver a consistent whole school approach to numeracy teaching, learning and assessment. Also on this day, staff will focus on strengthening our student wellbeing strategies and processes. This day will be a pupil free day. Jo Menzel Principal Book Week Parade and Activities Day What a marvellous Book Week Parade took place this morning! Hundreds of students and staff dressed up as their favourite book character and participated in the parade. The hours and hours of time that has gone into making costumes was incredible to see. The Escape to Anywhere theme was alive and well. Parents can breathe a sigh of relief as the crepe paper and hot glue gun are popped away for another 12 months! Thanks everyone for making it such a special occasion. These are the days that children remember. Anne Rochford Assistant Principal

NEXT PFA MEETING IS FRIDAY 15th SEPTEMBER at 9.00am in staffroom

PFA will be holding the Father’s Day Stall this Friday, September 1st. The Father's Day stall runs exactly like the Mother's Day stall. We ask all students to donate an item/gift which a dad would like into the baskets located in every classroom. These may include things such as chocolates, books, tools, seeds, mugs, gardening items, car washing items, and kitchen items. This maybe the first time many students have the opportunity to purchase a gift for dad by themselves. If you have two dads we ask that you donate two items, this way everyone gets the opportunity to buy something. ALL GIFTS WILL BE $2.00 each. We ask students to bring the correct change please and a plastic bag to place the item in to take home on the day. If you can help on the stall on the day please let myself or the office know. Thank you for your continued support of PFA. The last day of term is Friday September 22nd and PFA will be holding a Pizza Lunch Day. Please keep an eye out for the lunch note soon. Some other dates to watch out for include; * The Mango Fundraiser (order forms will go home in the first week of Term 4, with the closing date October 30th.) * VIP DAY October 19th * Teacher Appreciation Day October 20th Kasslea Shaw PFA President.
