So another successful and fun night I hear was had at the clubs annual quiz and auction night; unfortunately it conflicted with a work conference for me so was I was unable to attend. Thank you to everyone involved in the night, as events like these takes the effort of a number of members. Moving on to what I think has been the big excitement this month which was the completion of the deck, this has significantly enhanced the viewing experience especially for courts 1 & 2 but also improves viewing for all other courts. From the feedback at the Open Day I am sure this will be a very beneficial addition to the usability of the club, both in terms of spectators as well as other social activities - so if you haven’t been down to the club for a while come down and check it out. The weather gods were kind to us for Open Day with a nice spring type day that saw a good numbers coming down to play, this was especially so for the juniors. We also saw many registrations on the day which certainly kept Angie busy! We were also visited by Brent Robinson, CEO Tennis Auckland, who came down and joined us in a game as gracious hosts Bruce Waite & I “letBrent and Sheridan (Kiwi Tennis) beat us convincingly! So a big thank you for those who helped make this year’s Open Day last Sunday such a success. On to Caro Bowl, some changes this year with the competition moving to a 2 pool format with each pool playing 3 round robin matches then moving on to Semi final & 5 th 8 th playoffs from November 18 th . Tennis Auckland has scheduled both our home matches on a Sunday afternoon which is great for the club. Any Friday night home games will be dependent on where the team finishes in the round robin pool matches. So mark these round robin dates in your calendar: Round 1 Sunday 30 th Oct at home to Parnell 2 Round 2 Friday 4 th Nov away to Kohimarama Round 3 Sun 13 th Nov at home to Pompallier. So for many winter sports is drawing to an end but there is very little break for those involved in Interclub teams as we move in to these early next month, so if you haven’t played since last summer it is just about time to dig out you racket. By the time you receive your next newsletter the tennis season will have kicked off and we will be very close to the start of daylight savings! Roll on Summer…….. And one last plug for me, this Friday 26 th is Daffodil Day and the company I work for are supporting the Cancer Society fundraising through Brave the Shave where 22 of us will be having our hair shaved. SENIORS Please welcome our new Sunnyhills Tennis Club Ladies Captain – Gillian Summers for the season.

The teams and reserves for Sunnyhills this season is attached. We have managed to form 10 teams including a Scarbro Caro Bowl Women’s team with a home game on Sunday 30

th October 2pm. It’s not too late to express interest in

being a reserve for summer interclub, it’s a great way to play the different formats. Entries for twilight tennis open on 31

st August, doubles and singles formats are available for those keen on interclub

during the week ?! Last season was Monday and/ or Tuesday nights from 6:30pm, minimum team of 2 for singles. Please express interest or contact me for more information. Our social night tennis season will start towards the end of September, most likely back to a team format – more details TBA. Koru Tennis Club have invited Sunnyhills for a social night of tennis on Wednesday 31

st August from 6pm, please

express your interest for a pre season hit around and maybe a sausage ! We have enough members to make it happen so time to dust that racket off. Cheers Aaron Trembath & Gillian Summers 027 233 7358 022 641 4500

***************************************************************************** MIDWEEK LADIES Soup Day The Midweek Ladies Annual Soup Day on 3

rd August was another huge success thanks to all those

players who came along to enjoy the warm sunshine and yummy soup lunch. We had 5 courts in action making the most of the morning while watching the builders complete the new deck in between games. Thank you to Marcelle from Peak Fitness for her donation of a sports massage! We collected tins of food for the Salvation Army Food Bank in Howick which were very appreciative. Special thanks to the fantastic committee: Michelle B., Michelle J., Charmaine, Wendy, Gill, Jo and Laura. Lead-In Interclub Currently I am taking names for Lead-In Interclub which is set to begin on Tuesday, 11

th October (first week of Term

4). Get in quick if you are interested in either playing on a team or reserving. Champagne Breakfast Save the date of Wednesday, 14

th September for the Champagne Breakfast Open Day

Thank you, Laura Beattie 027 2235399

****************************************************************************** JUNIORS Welcome to a new season of tennis for our junior members. All our junior programmes will continue to be run for us by Kiwi Tennis this season and will see a new combination of coaches at the club. Jan Solcani will take over as Head Coach when he arrives in NZ next month. This is very exciting for the club and Jan will deliver the Hot Shots programme (Red-Green) as well as the junior coaching for our Beginner and Open Interclub players. His experience should be of huge benefit to our juniors keen to develop their game. Sam Davies whom some of you already know will be coaching alongside Jan.

We would like to thank Clayton Barry and Connor Williamson for their commitment to the club in acting as assistant coaches over the last few years as they step down due to other commitments. New assistant coaches will be announced shortly. Junior coaching starts Tuesday October 11th The coaching programmes being run this season are outlined along with days/times with the registration info sent out to members. If any of these need clarifying please ask me when you come to register either on Sunday at Open Day or Tuesday August 23rd 5:30-6:30pm or Saturday August 27th 12:30-2:00pm. It is important that you are placed in the correct level as coaching groups are based on ability. Jan and Sam will make any changes required as we get into the season. Interclub kicks off in term 4 on October 15th and runs through until Dec 11th. Please let us know by September 10th if you would like to play in one of our junior Interclub teams so we can appoint teams, captains and managers (Parents will be asked to manage their child's team for the term if their child is captain, this responsibility is shared on a term basis and is not onerous) For those juniors who would like to play in our beginners section please advise so you can be assessed before the cut off date. NB. Beginners Interclub is now played with a Green Dot lower compression ball to bring Auckland Tennis inline with other regions/countries. Matchplay sessions will run on a Friday afternoon again this season for those in the Orange and above levels. It was great to see so many kids enjoying rallies and learning game play during these afternoons last season. We aim to carry out mini tournaments once a month on these Matchplay afternoons in conjunction with pizza nights.

As always we love to have parent involvement so if you'd like to join the junior committee if just for helping with the odd fun event /mini tournament/ pizza nights that our kids love to take

part in please let Shelley know, every little bit helps and kids love your participation in their events. Looking forward to making this tennis season fun for all the family.
