The Perry Christian First Christian Church Disciples of Christ
IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN …
If I had to do it all over again If I COULD do it all over again, I would do it, in a
heartbeat—the confidence and the trust you placed in me, the thrill of knowing and watch-
ing your children grow and become mature Christian adults and finding their ministry in
the church and having children of their own, the heartaches and the hallelujahs we shared,
for letting me walk with you in the valley and celebrate your victories, forgiving each other
and loving across our differences, and growing together. If I COULD do it all over again, I
would do it—you have called forth the best in me and from me, you tolerated my awful
jokes, forgave me when my sermons missed the mark, you nurtured and affirmed my min-
istry gifts, and so much more.
IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, I
WOULD HAVE …
… Preached less and said “thank you” more often and sent more thank you notes.
… Invited friends over to dinner even though the house was a mess and the carpet
had stains.
… Talked less and listened more.
… Cried and laughed less at movies and more with you.
… Gotten down on my knees, more often, to greet your children and known them
well enough to call them by name.
… Shared more ministry with you.
… Tried to make my sermons more visceral and less cerebral.
… Made prayer more of a priority.
… Done many more daring, risky things to challenge you to mission instead stick-
ing with the traditional and playing it safe.
… Not jumped as quickly to judgment and forgiven more freely and been more
understanding.
There would be more “I love you’s,” and more “I’m sorry’s” … But mostly, given
another shot at our ministry together I would seize every moment, look at it, and really see
it for what it is … try to discern God’s direction in all of it … give it everything I’ve got …
and never looked back.
Although our ministry time together is short it is not too late to do things different-
ly. Let us pray with David, “TEACH US TO NUMBER OUR DAYS ARIGHT, THAT WE
MAY GAIN A HEART OF WISDOM.”
CARPE DIEM!
Love, Martin

PRAISE THE
LORD !!!
With the recent growth in our Sunday School program, the Education Committee has made a decision to move Caraway Street back to per-forming on Sunday
Mornings. Kick off Sunday for Caraway will be the first Sunday in October. Our prayer is that with the Wednesday program (starts August 24), and moving Caraway Street back to Sunday mornings during the 10:30 ser-vice we will be able to double our ministry to the youth. To make this possible we do need some help from you. Caraway Street still needs 2 stage manag-ers (1 for cast one and one for cast two), and we would love to have one more actor. The other big need is for van drivers to pick up chil-dren to attend on Sunday mornings. There are chil-dren who would come, if they had a ride each Sun-day. Please be in prayer about how you can help this ministry. Thank you. Pam Cunningham, Caraway Street Coordinator
