Principal’s Report

Spectacular Last Friday night I had the absolute pleasure of witnessing the extraordinary talents of students from across NSW. It was an amazing night and a very uplifting experience. The children from Pennant Hills PS joined 2680 fellow students from across the state to create an enormous choir. The sound was incredible. students were able to put a smile on every student’s face as well as all the teachers. Today was a great advertisement for what this school community is about – well done Year 6 students and teachers. Thanks also to every family that supported today through the purchasing of tokens to allow their child/ren to participate in the many activities.

Kinderlinks Today was the last Kinderlinks session for 2019. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces eager to begin their schooling. These sessions provide the staff with an opportunity to get to know the students to assist with planning but more importantly, it allows the children to participate in school type activities so when they start next year they are aware what will take place. Thank you to all the staff involved to make this program so successful and thank you to the parents for making arrangements in their busy schedule to ensure a smooth transition to ‘big school’. As I mentioned this morning if you are new to our school community – Welcome! If during your schooling you are unsure about something please contact the school’s office to get an answer to your query, we are here to support you. Education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living. John Dewey Kind regards, Matt Pinchbeck Principal

Kinderlinks Congratulations to all Kinderlinks students. Today was our last Kinderlinks session, all students had an exciting 4 weeks getting used to coming to school. Today we finished with a small concert. Well done to all students, Year 5 helpers and teaching staff who together helped to make this program so successful. We look forward to seeing you all in 2019. Leadership Speeches The top 10 girls and boys in year 5 will present their leadership speeches to the 3-6 students and staff on Wednesday at 1:50pm. Speeches will be under the Cola on the 3-6 site. Candidates will be informed of the outcome this Friday. Celebration of Learning Please join us for our annual Celebration of Learning at Pennant Hills High School Friday 7 December. K-2: 9:45am – 11:15am 3-6: 11:30 – 1:15pm These are approximate times. Shining a Ray of Light This Festive Season This Christmas, Ray White will continue its popular tradition of giving with the return of ‘A little Ray of giving’. The inspiring Christmas campaign will see Ray White Cherrybrook | Thornleigh | West Pennant Hills partner with Rotary Club of Thornleigh to help disadvantaged people who may need a little extra light in their festive season. Pennant Hills Public School is supporting this charity and we urge everyone who is able, to donate a small gift for those families who are less fortunate. The gift drive is a way to help put a smile on the face of anyone who may need some extra cheer at this time of year, and it is as simple as can be. All you need to do is wrap up your present and drop it into the K-2 or 3-6 school office. Please write on the gift male or female and nominate an age group. The office will be collecting gifts from Wednesday 28 November-Tuesday 11 December and Rotary Club of Thornleigh will collect the gifts from our school to give to the less fortunate. It’s a really simple way to put a smile on the face of someone who might otherwise go without this Christmas, adding just a small gift can make the biggest difference to families who are struggling at an expensive time of year. Ray White has run this initiative across Australia and New Zealand each December since 2012. Last year more than 300 offices across Australia and New Zealand helped raise 30,000 gifts for disadvantaged families this Christmas. Thank you for your support. Kind Regards Mrs Melissa Griffith Relieving Deputy Principal

LIBRARY NEWS

Borrowing for 2018 Student borrowing has now finished for the year so it is necessary for all library books to be returned this week. Scholastic Book Club news A reminder that the closing date for Issue 8 online orders is tomorrow Wednesday 28 November at 9 pm. If you wish to place an order from the Book Club catalogue you will need to go the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website page, register your details if you have not already done so and then pay by credit card. Please note that because we are a split-site school we have two Book Club accounts “Pennant Hills Public School K-2” and “Pennant Hills Public School 3-6”. If you have children on both sites you may decide to register and place your entire order just with one child to save time. Ms Davis Teacher Librarian

P&C PRESIDENT

Music Program Farewells

Firstly, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to Dayan McL who will be retiring as Strings Convenor at the end of the year. Dayan has coordinated the String Ensemble for 9 years and has worked tirelessly to promote both the Strings program and the Music Program in general at PHPS. Dayan has also been instrumental in establishing performance opportunities such as the participation in the Festival of Instrumental Music at the Opera House, as well as String Soiree, Socially Strings and Busking to encourage involvement in the school and local community. Dayan also played a major role in the introduction of the creative and performing arts captains into the PHPS Leadership program. When not working directly on the PHPS String ensemble, Dayan put her amazing energy towards helping establish new String ensembles at West Pennant Hills PS, Normanhurst West PS and Pennant Hills High School - ensembles that will continue to flourish thanks to her efforts. We will miss you Dayan! In her place, Phil Y will assume the role of Strings Convenor. Welcome aboard Phil. We will also say goodbye to Deb M at the end of the year. Deb has spent the last 2 years conducting our Training and Intermediate Bands. She taught our young musicians with the energy and commitment of a troop of conductors! Deb has given our younger musicians a strong start to their musical careers and will be very sadly missed.

Our final big P&C event of the year is coming soon!

Please join us for this fun family event, and invite your family and friends! and feel free to say goodbye to Deb at the Carols event!
