Tusen takk! Last Thursday, November 29, members of Greycliffe choir travelled to Epping to sing at the Epping Club. The choir sang from the steps of the grand staircase, entertaining patrons as they moved around the club. The choir sang like angels and did a fantastic job, providing fun and enjoyment for the audience. Special thanks and congratulations to Rhea D, Emily S, Anita T, Sairsha D and Genevieve S who performed in special items of their own. Whilst waiting at the train station, the students really got into the Christmas spirit and gave an impromptu performance of "Christmas where the Gum Trees Grow" much to the delight of the train staff and commuters, and despite the rain. Thank you to Mrs Griffith and Ms Stevens who organised and accompanied the choir. LEADERSHIP IN 2019 Over the last week, many Year 5 students have volunteered to put their name forward for many of the leadership roles within the school for 2019. Having listened to their speeches I am thoroughly looking forward to working with these incredible students to improve our school. On Friday at Celebration of Learning the students will find out whether they have been successful in their pursuits. Regardless of the outcome every single student should consider themselves successful for the quality of their speech, desire to improve the school and support their fellow students. Principal’s Report The Greycliffe choir has been busy singing Christmas carols out and about in our community.

On Saturday 24 November, a small group of students donned their red and white and sang carols at the Danish Church Fete. They did a brilliant job and their performance was very well appreciated. The choir had a special guest conductor as Ms Stevens was busy at the Schools Spectacular. Huge congratulations and thank you to Sairsha D, who stepped up to the music stand and conducted the choir brilliantly! Huge thank you to Miss Dwyer who supervised and organised the students.

CELEBRATION OF LEARNING 2018

On Friday we recognise the outstanding achievements of our brilliant students across the school. I personally am looking forward to having the opportunity to acknowledge these students and their commitment to their learning, sporting endeavours and creative pursuits. If I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you as yet please take the time to come and introduce yourself.

BAZA – BEECROFT ANNUAL ZONE ACHIEVEMENTS

Last night Mrs Buttrey and I attended the annual BAZAs. This year one of our very own students, Lola D, was acknowledged for reaching the highest level possible for her chosen sport. Earlier this year Lola represented NSW at the National Championships. Congratulations Lola on your fantastic achievement and all the very best for your future sporting endeavours.

RETURNING IN 2019

Thank you to everyone who has returned the pink form indicating they will be returning to PHPS in 2019. This greatly assists us with planning for classes. If you haven’t returned the form could you do so by this Friday. Planning for next year is well underway and to ensure a smooth start to the year it is imperative to know who is returning and when they are returning.

FAREWELL MISS CATHERALL

As I mentioned last week Miss Catherall has accepted a permanent position at the newly established Lindfield Learning Village. Her last day with us is this Friday. We wish her all the very best and I am sure she will be a success at her new school.

Kindergarten 2019 Enrolments We are currently enrolling Kindergarten students for 2019. Celebration of Learning Please join us for our annual Celebration of Learning at Pennant Hills High School Friday 7 December. K-2 9:45am – 11:15am 3-6 11:30am – 1:15pm Please note these are approximate times. Shining a Ray of Light This Festive Season This Christmas, Ray White will continue the popular tradition of giving, with the return of ‘A little Ray of Giving’. This inspiring Christmas campaign will see Ray White Cherrybrook | Thornleigh | West Pennant Hills partner with Rotary Club of Thornleigh, to help disadvantaged people who may need a little extra light in their festive season. Pennant Hills Public School is supporting this charity and we urge everyone who is able, to donate a small gift for those families who are less fortunate. The gift drive is a way to help put a smile on the face of anyone who may need some extra cheer at this time of year. It’s as simple as can be, all you need to do is wrap up your present and drop it into the K-2 or 3-6 school office. Please write on the gift tag supplied at the office whether male or female and nominate an age group. The office will be collecting gifts from Wednesday 28 November to Tuesday 11 December. Rotary Club of Thornleigh will collect the gifts from our school to give to the less fortunate. It is a really simple way to put a smile on the face of someone who might otherwise go without this Christmas, adding just a small gift can make the biggest difference to families who are struggling at an expensive time of year. Ray White has run this initiative across Australia and New Zealand each December since 2012. Last year more than 300 offices across Australia and New Zealand helped raise 30,000 gifts for disadvantaged families this Christmas. Thank you for your support.

BAND NEWS

Yesterday, band and strings held their first combined rehearsal for Carols night. It was a huge rehearsal but extremely rewarding. Thank you to all the boys and girls who gave up their time! Thank you also to Sarah R, Nic P, Nee and Jeannie for helping out. Our next combined rehearsal is on Thursday 6

December from 7:30am. Band is still looking for interested people to join in 2019 particularly on flute. If you are currently in Year 2-5 and are interested in learning an instrument, please contact us for information. SCB and JB will perform at the Celebration of Learning 3-6 assembly this Friday. Everyone is welcome! If you can help with set up in the PHHS hall at 8am or reset the hall after the assembly, please let us know. The Band Committee [email protected]

CANTEEN 2019 Roster Thank you to all who have already volunteered for the roster of 2019. There are still many positions available, particularly for the 3-6 site. All lunches for the whole school are prepared at the 3-6 site, generally 100-200 lunches per day. This can not be done without volunteer helpers. If you have children on the K-2 site only, we would welcome your help with the lunch preparation at the 3-6 site before 1pm, you can then head to the K-2 site to serve treats over lunchtime. The commitment asked for is only once per month and with school holidays deducted it means that most people on the roster do eight or nine canteen shifts in a year. The shift is generally 9:30-2:00pm but shorter shifts can be arranged if necessary. Please contact me if you are able to help. Roster Below is the roster for this week. Please remember to sign in at the office of either site before starting your shift. K-2 Site Wednesday 5 December – Kathy Y, Samantha M Thursday 6 December – Nicole P, Bec S Friday 7 December – Narelle M, Peta P 3-6 Site Wednesday 5 December – Deb A, Christine Thursday 6 December – Bec S, Zoey Friday 7 December – Leanne Y, Peta P, Shelley C Thank you for your help.
