This month, as we celebrate the freedoms that we have as Americans, we should also celebrate the deeper nature of the spiritual freedom that God gives us in and through Jesus. David reminds us of this freedom in Psalm 119:32, saying to God, "I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free." God gives us freedom, so that we will choose Him and so that we will freely choose to live as He wants and wills us to do. Paul reminds us in Romans 3:24, that we are "justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Jesus sets us free by dying for us on the cross. As Paul further says in 8:2, we are to live freely in and for Jesus " because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." We are called to use our freedom carefully, as Paul tells us in Galatians 5:13-15, saying, "you, my brothers (and sisters), were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command--'Love your neighbor as yourself. If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other." Freedom then is a gift from God, one that we are given in order to live freely and fully for Jesus, learning to live and to love others as He does, learning how to truly be alive as we use our freedom to draw nearer and nearer to Jesus. Jesus loves you and so do I! Pastor Brian

GOD'S GIFT OF FREEDOM

God gives us many gifts, one of which is freedom. As Paul further says in 8:2, we are to live freely in and for Jesus "because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." We are called to use our freedom carefully, as Paul tells us in Galatians 5:13-15, saying, "you, my brothers (and sisters), were called to be free.

Worship News THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD'S SUPPER

For 2012, the Session has approved normally celebrating the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of each month. During July, we will celebrate this Sacrament on Sunday, July 1

st.

Please pray and prepare yourselves to receive and to celebrate this Sacra-ment together.

SPECIAL TIMES OF PRAYER Everyone is invited to join Pastor Brian and Pastor Jerry each Sunday as we meet at 8:30 AM in the sanctuary to pray: to pray for the Sunday service and to pray for all of those involved in serving that day; to pray for God's Spirit to be poured out in our midst; to pray that we will become the church family God wants and wills us to be. The Deacons also invite you to join them in weekly prayer for our church and for our church leaders each Saturday at 8:30 AM in your homes (or wherever else you may be). Please join with your church family in setting aside time weekly to pray.

BECOMING PART OF THE FAMILY We are always blessed when God leads someone "new" to become a part of our church family. We affirm that it is God who leads us and calls us to join the church, to be a part of His body and family here at Peace. If you are new to the life of our church, or have not officially joined the church yet, we invite you to do so. If you are interested in attending and then joining, please let Pastor Brian know, so that we can coordinate everyone's schedules. Come and learn more about how God wants to bless you and use you to be a blessing at Peace.

HOME COMMUNION It is important to the Session that homebound members receive home communion as they are interested in and able to do so. If you know you will be unable to and would like to have home communion brought to you, please call Pastor Brian at the church office in order to make arrangements.

ARE YOU UP FOR A CHALLENGE? Pastor Brian is challenging you and the entire church to read through the Bible this upcoming year. A reading schedule will be provided to guide you in this. The goals of this challenge are: to encourage each of us to read more Scripture, including at home with our families; to help us develop a greater sense of the scope of Scripture and to help us develop a Biblical world view; to learn more about God and to enjoy the new life He offers us more fully. Be challenged and be blessed as we read through the Bible together next year!

Below is a summary of our actual vs. budgeted income and expenses as of June 30th:

SPECIAL CHURCH WIDE COMMITMENT TO ELK GROVE FOOD BANK One of the commitments that each of the churches that are part of “The Church at Elk Grove” has made is to financially pledge money to pay the lease for the Elk Grove Food Bank’s facility for 3 years. The Session has pledged a minimum of $2,000.00/year for this, or $166/month, and encourages each family to commit a mini-mum of $1.00 per person in your family per month to give to the Food Bank (including youth, kids and babies). We estimate that we have around 160 people in our church family, which multiplied by $1.00 a month for 12 months equals $1980.00, which we then rounded up to $2,000.00. This year we have paid out $1,162 so far and have received $750 in donations toward this from you, for a deficit of $412. Also our monthly food collection for the Elk Grove Food Closet will be on Sunday, August 5th and on the first Sunday of each month. Please contact the Elders if you have any questions about this special commitment we are making as a church family.

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES Did you know that there are several ways you can help Peace raise funds with-out spending any additional money yourself? Recycle: The Joy Singers collect recyclable beverage containers to help offset the costs of piano tuning and annual fees for music license for the use of songs that we sing and play. We collect beverage containers only; the container must have the CA redemption symbol on it to be eligible. The symbol is generally on the side of the container: CA CRV is what to look for. Please remove the caps from all bottles, because the caps break the machine. Eligible examples are aluminum soda cans; beer cans; plastic water bottles; some hard liquor bottles; & bottles that are not 100% juice or milk, like ice tea and Snapple. Not eligible are milk cartons; many 100% juices that do not have the CA symbol on them; & wine bottles.

You can either bring your bottles and cans to church, or bring them to the recycling center yourself and turn in the money to the church marked “music recycling”. The closest center to the church is behind Bel-Air. This location is closed Sun and Mon. After you turn in your items, the attendant give you a slip and then proceed to a Bel-Air cashier where they will give you cash. If you prefer for us to pick up your items, please contact Liz Irons at: 916-393-1310. The Joy singers thank you. eScrip: We are enrolled in the eScrip program, where participating business partners contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty card and credit card purchases to the organization of your choice. For example, you can register your Safeway Club card with eScrip, and they will automatically donate a percentage of your grocery pur-chases to our church. You can also register a credit card so that any purchases you make with that card at Macy’s or any other participating business will trigger contribu-tions to Peace. All you need to do is go to www.escrip.com, sign up to support our church, and then enter any club card and/or credit card numbers that you want to use. It costs you nothing; the merchants make the contributions. The web site lists all the businesses that participate in the program. If you have any questions or would like help signing up, contact Cindy Martin. eWaste: Not sure what to do with all those old cell phones, computers, televisions, or other electronics? All you have to do is go to www.eWaste4good.com and fill in your

information. Be sure to designate our church as the organization you want to support. Your old items will be picked up for free and the proceeds will be sent to us. See the flyer posted in the fellowship hall for more info or contact Cindy Martin.

FUNDRAISERS IN THE FALL The Session has approved two fundraisers for the fall: a rummage sale on Saturday September 8 and a tamale fundraiser for early October to raise funds to pay off our heater and ac improvements.

VISION, MISSION AND CORE VALUES

VISION

Peace Presbyterian Church will be a unified body of believers where all are trans-formed by the Holy Spirit into people of joyful worship, students of the Holy Bible and bold disciples of Jesus Christ, proclaiming the Gospel while serving our community.

MISSION

Our mission as disciples of Jesus the Christ at Peace Presbyterian Church is to reach out to our community by sharing the message of God's love and grace, by inviting each person we meet to follow Jesus.

CORE VALUES

We will prioritize our relationships with God and with one another by being faithful stewards, by loving God and loving one another through prayer and fellowship, by lovingly serving our church family creatively and compassionately.

We will seek to inspire each person to actively encounter God's presence through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We will encourage one another to worship and learn about the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit through the study of the Holy Bible and education opportunities that teach us how to be disciples of Jesus the Christ.

We will provide an encouraging and challenging environment that empowers and equips each of us to go out into the world rejoicing and serving Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

We will seek to create mutually uplifting relationships with fellow believers, near and far, to further the work of God's kingdom.

You can download, print and email invitations for upcoming events, or church forms from our own church web-site. You can even get a copy of the just the monthly calendar or the church brochure to print or send by email someone who has asked about your favorite studies. These are made for you to use as God leads you in sharing with others the reason for the hope you have. Do you have information to include in the Church Newsletter, Sunday bulletin, or an update for a ministry here at Peace? Please email the church office at [email protected] and CC a copy to [email protected]

COMMUNICATION REMINDERS An updated Church members and friends phone directory is now available in the fellowship hall. Also, if your name tag has gone missing, please let the church office know. Are you receiving our emails? If not, it is because we don't have your email. Please email the church office to have us add your email address to our list.
