November 2018 4290 N. Wickham Road Melbourne, FL 32935
(321) 242-4700 Dear Longleaf Families,
November kicks off the season of cooler weather and
excitement in the air. This month often reminds us of how
thankful we are for what we have in our lives. Giving thanks is
one way for us to show our appreciation and cultivate a culture
of gratitude to recognize the contributions of many to make
Longleaf the best school for our students. We want to thank our
Longleaf staff, parents, guardians, Boosters, SAC, extended
family, community members, partners in education, and
friends for the village it takes to help our bobcats achieve their
goals. Words cannot express how much we value and appreciate
your involvement and support. We have many special events
coming up this month and we hope you will be able to join us for
more fun.
Congratulations goes out to Ms. Kledzik, Media Specialist,
for being nominated as our Teacher of the Year and to Ms. Chan,
After Care Coordinator, for being nominated as our Employee of
the Year. Both were recognized for the tremendous work they do
by their peers. Way to GO!! Thank you for all you do!!

Longleaf Volunteer of the Year!
With many thanks and extreme pleasure, Longleaf Elementary nominates Lennie Garnhart as our Volunteer of the Year. Lennie is a familiar face at
Longleaf and is always willing to help wherever she is needed. This is Lennie’s 5th year as a Longleaf parent and volunteer. She averages more than 12 hours a week giving her time for the school as a whole. She interacts with children to locate books, check books out, and encourage reading of Sunshine State books to get on the library reader wall. In addition to the field trips, parties, field days, and other events, Lennie has conducted reading literature circles for a third grade classroom, and is teaching Spanish to the Quest kids. From everyone at Longleaf, congratulations and thank you, Ms. Lennie!
Supervisor of Elections Visits Longleaf
Lori Scott, the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections, visited with 4th and 5th grade students to share with them the importance of exercising voting rights and responsibilities. Students took part in voting on the poll machines and were able to vote for their favorite ice cream, pizza topping, and movie. The Supervisor of Elections held the Launch the Vote art contest for 4th and 5th graders and many of our students participated. Longleaf had two students honored at a recent event. London T. placed 2nd in the competition and Sela H. earned an honorable mention. Both students are 5th graders.
Storybook Pumpkins
What an amazing response the Media Center had with its Storybook Pumpkin Contest. A huge thank you to our Longleaf community for all your excitement! 93 pumpkins were entered for a total of 107 participants! If you didn’t have a chance to see the pumpkins, look for them on the Longleaf Boosters Facebook page. Every student voted in each of 10 categories to select the winners. 1st and 2nd place received a ribbon and all participants received a certificate. The winning pumpkin with the most votes overall was the Death Star by 6th grader, Christian D. All participants received coupons for an ice cream treat from the Boosters during lunch on November 2nd.
