Fr. Gregory Chisholm, SJ ~ Pastor Opening Our Churches Our Parish will continue following the COVID-19 Health Restrictions through the Summer. All parishioners will be required to wear Masks and to maintain social distancing and to sanitize their hands. This applies to everyone whether vaccinated or not. At St. Charles Borromeo when the number of parishioners exceeds the available space, the overflow must be seated in the Church auditorium. You are further required to follow the instructions of the Ministers of Hospitality when it comes to seating in our Churches. You should not expect that you will be able to sit where you always sat before the Pandemic. EVERYONE has been forced to change by the circumstances. Your cooperation with the Ushers is a demonstration of simple Christian Charity. Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary At the Feast of Pentecost this year Mr Bruce Sampson of Las Vegas, NV, visited the Parish of St. Charles Borromeo, Resurrection and All Saints to celebrate the Feast with us. I invited Mr. Sampson to offer a greeting to our parishioners from the Knights of Peter Claver, a Catholic lay organization founded in 1909 by Black laymen and several Josephite Catholic priests in Mobile, AL. Mr. Sampson was happy to extend a greeting to our congregation and he was eloquent in making a case for establishing a Council of the Knights of Peter Claver and a Court of the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Charles Borromeo. Mr Sampson was taken by the joyful enthusiasm of our congregation and by our celebration of the Gospel proclamation. So,I invited the leadership of the Knights of Peter Claver and the Ladies Auxiliary to visit our Church on Sunday, June 27th, to make a case for the organization and to see whether there might be interest in it among our parishioners. There is no Council or Court in the Archdiocese of New York, although they exist in the Brooklyn Diocese and the Archdiocese of Newark. There are 400 Councils and Courts throughout the United States. The headquarters is in New Orleans. LA. I have been a member of the Knights of Peter Claver since 1999 or so, when I served at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Los Angeles. The Knights of Peter Claver, Inc, is the largest historically African American Catholic lay organization in the United States. The Order, as it is called, was founded in Mobile, Alabama at Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish by four Josephite priests, including Fr. James Dorsey, SSJ, an African American, and three African American laymen. Since its founding, the Order has become an international Service organization with a Council in Colombia, South America. The Order is named for St. Peter Claver, SJ, who lived in Cartagena, Colombia, and served the African Slaves brought to South America for work. The purpose of the Knights of Peter Claver is to render service to God and His Holy Church, render aid and assistance to the sick and disabled, and promote social and intellectual association among their members. See their website: kofpc.org. Also be present for the 10AM Mass on June 27, 2021, at St. Charles Borromeo.

Fr. Gregory Chisholm, SJ ~ cont…. Our Next Pastor: Fr. Timothy Wiggins Fr. Gregory Chisholm, SJ will leave the Parish of St. Charles Borromeo, Resurrection and All Saints by September 30, 2021. The current expectation is that Fr. Chisholm will be missioned by the Jesuits to work in Baltimore, MD, but actual decisions in this regard will be confirmed in the Fall. On July 1, 2021, Fr. Timothy Wiggins of the Archdiocese of New York will become the Pastor of the Parish. Born in Valhalla, NY, Father Timothy Wiggins, 57, is the son of Cecelia Johns Wiggins of Port Chester, NY. He grew up in Port Chester in the care of his grandmother, Ms Beatrice Johns. He graduated from Port Chester High School in 1982. He earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management at the University of Denver, then worked as an assistant director of nutritional services for major corporations, including the Marriott Corporation, and for hospitals, among them St. Joseph's in Yonkers. While working full time, he also put in five, years as rectory cook at Our Lady of Mercy in Port Chester; he loved the job and the chance to get to know the priests. In 1980 he was received into the Roman Catholic Church at Our Lady of Mercy. Even though he had a robust professional career, his heart was in the Church. In his own words, “I saw the need to give, the need to help more people, to be of service. I was already in a service industry, and I wanted to take it to a higher level.” He applied to the St. John Neumann Seminary Residence but delayed awhile out of concern for his grandmother. He spent two years at St. John Neumann Seminary Residence. While studying at St. Joseph’s Seminary he taught in the religious education programs at St. Philip Neri in the Bronx and Immaculate Conception in Irvington and visited patients at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx and Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne. He served summer assignments at St. Charles Borromeo in Harlem. Fr. Wiggins was ordained on May 18, 2002, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. He was first assigned as associate pastor at St. Peter’s Church in Monticello, NY from 2002-2003. He spent 10 years as an associate pastor at St. John the Evangelist in White Plains until 2013. He was administrator of Our Lady of Mercy for two years. He was assigned as chaplain at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains from 2015 to 2019. He was temporary administer of Our Lady of Sorrows in White Plains most recently. In his free time, “Father Tim” said he enjoys listening to religious and classical music, singing, taking long walks, and, of course, the one activity that led to priesthood: cooking.

Abriendo Nuestras Iglesias
