Lord God almighty , you have anointed Jesus as the

Christ not to rule a kingdom won by violence but to

bear witness to the truth, not to reign in arrogance but

to serve in humility and love, not to mirror this world’s

powers but to inherit a dominion that will not pass

away.�

Freed from our sins by the blood of this faithful wit-

ness, shape our service of others after the pattern of

Christ’s self�sacrificing love.�

We ask this through the Christ who was, who is and

who is to come; your Son who lives and reigns with

you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and

ever.�

Feast of Christ the King�The Circle of our liturgical year comes to an end this Sunday, the Feast of Christ the King. In Hebrews 10 it reads, “[He] took his seat forever at the right hand of God; now he waits until his enemies are made his footstool.” We too await his victorious coming, when the dead will rise and the Lord will gather all his elect, all those who have been washed in His blood. This will be a time of judgement also for all the enemies of the Savior. We anticipate his coming again among us.��

Next Sunday, December 2nd, is the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning of a new Church year. The circle of the liturgical year will begin as it has ended: we await the coming of the Lord!��

A New Pastoral Letter from the U.S. Bishops on Racism�The United States Bishops have voted overwhelmingly in support of a new document which decries the Sin of Racism in this country. Please take the time to read the Letter, titled: “The Enduring Call to Love���A Pastoral Letter Against Racism” at the following website: www.usccb.org�

�National Black Catholic History Month�Each November the Catholic Church in the United States celebrates Black Catholic History Month. The Church during this Month remembers the “Uncommon Faithfulness” of Black Catholics in the United States. Black Catholicism has survived here despite slavery, mistreatment and the disregard of many of our co�religionists. The faith has survived with only a limited presence of black Catholic clergy to support the black faithful. The identity of Black Catholicism is largely due the resilience of a black laity which has kept the faith.��

During this month in 2018 we are pleased that several exemplars of Black Catholicism are on the formal path toward recognition as Saints of the Roman Catholic Church. They include Mother Mary Lange (1784�1882), Founder of the Oblate Sisters of Providence; Mother Henriette Delille (1813�1862), Founder of the Sisters of the Holy Family; Fr. Augustus Tolton (1854�1897), First self�identified black American to be ordained; Sr. Thea Bowman (1937�1990), “Arguably no person in recent memory did more to resist and transform the sad legacy of segregation and racism in the Catholic Church than Thea Bowman.”��

National Meeting of U.S. Bishops�Two weeks ago the Catholic Bishops of the United States gathered as a body in Baltimore, Md for their annual Fall meeting. That meeting was the first opportunity the Bishops had to address the terrible revelations about the sexual abuse of minors at the hands of Catholic clergy which surfaced this past Summer. My understanding is that Bishops had hoped to develop at this Fall meeting a unified code of conduct for Bishops regarding their treatment of victims of clergy abuse, regarding their response to accused clergy and regarding their own personal behavior.��

However, on Monday two weeks ago the Holy Father, Pope Francis, intervened and asked the Bishops not to vote on a universal code of conduct until an international meeting of Bishops on the same topic is held during February in Rome. The reasons for this decision by Pope Francis are not perfectly clear. Nevertheless the Catholic Church functions centrally, so there may be reason to believe that the Pope is hoping to develop a universal code of conduct for Bishops around the world. Unfortunately, this leaves the American Bishops at the center of a storm as they try to respond to the anger and frustration of the laity which was taken aback by the revelations of this past Summer.�

Fiesta de Cristo Rey�El Círculo de nuestro año litúrgico termina este domingo, La Fiesta de Cristo Rey. En Hebreos 10 se lee: “[Él] tomó asiento para siempre a la diestra de Dios; ahora espera hasta que sus enemigos se conviertan en el estrado de sus pies ”. Nosotros también esperamos su venida victoriosa, cuando los muertos se levanten y el Señor reúna a todos sus elegidos, a todos los que han sido lavados en su sangre. Este será un tiempo de juicio también para todos los enemigos del Salvador. Anticipamos su venida nuevamente entre nosotros.��

El próximo domingo, 2 de diciembre, es el Primer domingo de Adviento y el comienzo de un nuevo año de la Iglesia. El círculo del año litúrgico comenzará cuando termine: ¡esperamos la venida del Señor!��

Una Nueva Carta Pastoral de los Obispos de Estados Unidos Sobre El Racismo�Los obispos de Estados Unidos han votado abrumadoramente a favor de un nuevo documento que condena el pecado del racismo en este país. Tómese el tiempo para leer la Carta, titulada: “El Llamado Duradero al Amor ��� Una Carta Pastoral contra el Racismo” en el siguiente sitio web: www.usccb.org��

Mes Nacional de la Historia Católica Negra�Cada noviembre, la Iglesia Católica en los Estados Unidos celebra el Mes de la Historia Católica Negra. La Iglesia durante este mes recuerda la "Fidelidad poco común" de los Católicos Negros en los Estados Unidos. El Catolicismo negro ha sobrevivido aquí a pesar de la esclavitud, el maltrato y el desprecio de muchos de nuestros correligionarios. La fe ha sobrevivido con solo una presencia limita-da del clero Católico Negro para apoyar a los fieles negros. La identidad del Catolicismo Negro se debe en gran parte a la resistencia de un laicado negro que ha mantenido la fe.��

Durante este mes de 2018, nos complace que varios ejemplares del Catolicismo Negro estén en el camino formal hacia el reconocimiento como Santos de la Iglesia Católica Romana. Incluyen a la Madre Maria Lange (1784�1882), Fundadora de las Oblatas de la Providencia; Madre Henriette Delille (1813�1862), fundadora de las Hermanas de la Sagrada Familia; P. Augustus Tolton (1854�1897), primer estadounidense negro auto�identificado en ser ordenado; Hna. Thea Bowman (1937�1990), "Podría decirse que en la memoria reciente ninguna persona hizo más para resistir y transformar el triste legado de la segregación y el racismo en la Iglesia Católica que Thea Bowman".�

Encuentro Nacional de Obispos de los Estados Unidos.�Hace dos semanas, los Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos se reunieron como un cuerpo en Baltimore, Md, para su reunión anual de Otoño. Esa reunión fue la primera oportunidad que tuvieron los Obispos para abordar las terribles revelaciones sobre el abuso sexual de menores a manos del clero Católico que surgió el verano pasado. Según tengo entendido, los Obispos esperaban desarrollar en este Otoño el cumplimiento de un código de conducta unificado para los Obispos en relación con el trato que reciben a las víctimas del abuso del clero, la respuesta al clero acusado y su comportamiento personal.�

Sin embargo, el lunes, hace dos semanas, el Santo Padre, el Papa Francisco, intervino y pidió a los Obispos que no voten un código de conducta universal hasta que se celebre una reunión internacional de Obispos sobre el mismo tema en febrero en Roma. Las razones de esta decisión por el Papa Francisco no están perfectamente claras. Sin embargo, la Iglesia Católica funciona centralmente, por lo que puede haber razones para creer que el Papa espera desarrollar un código de conducta universal para los Obispos de todo el mundo. Desafortunadamente, esto deja a los Obispos Estadounidenses en el centro de una tormenta mientras tratan de responder a la ira y la frustración de los laicos que fueron sorprendidos por las revelaciones del verano pasado.�

LECTURA DEL EVANGELIO Juan 18: 33�37 Pilato preguntó Jesús si él era “rey” Jesús contestó que su reino no era de este mundo, y que el vino a este mundo para ser testigo de la verdad. Los que estén de parte de la verdad escucharán su voz y lo seguirán. �

Señor Dios todopoderoso, has ungido a Jesús como el Cris-to, no para gobernar un reino ganado por la violencia, sino para dar testimonio de la verdad, no para reinar con arrogan-cia sino para servir con humildad y amor, no para reflejar los poderes de este mundo sino para heredar Dominio que no pasará.�

Liberados de nuestros pecados por la sangre de este testigo fiel, dan forma a nuestro servicio a los demás siguiendo el modelo del amor abnegado de Cristo.�

Te lo pedimos a través del Cristo que fue, quién es y quién ha de venir; tu Hijo que vive y reina contigo en la unidad del Espíritu
