CATHOLIC SCHOOLSParents are the primary educators of their children, and our archdiocese offers many ways to help parents facilitate their children’s education. I have a strong belief that Catholic schools not only provide for the academic needs of our children but also integrate the faith into every classroom subject. With the ability to provide ongoing formation in the faith, we prepare our students for their future education and jobs. In a nurturing environment, they learn the traditional classroom subjects through a challenging curriculum, but they also learn about virtues and character development to be well-rounded students. This is the Catholic education difference that we should want to provide for all children.
Please keep the families, students, teachers and all of those who help support our Catholic schools in your prayers.Amen? Amen!

Saint Cecilia Dresser Project 2019For quite a number of years, Saint Cecilia parish has generously contributed to a
“dresser project.” Through this project, we collect baby items that will be donated, through Pregnancy Center East, to a mother who has made the choice of life for her unborn child. Many parishioners find this to be a very positive way to express their support for the pro-life movement. This year’s dresser can be found in the vestibule with a list of suggested items. We are collecting baby items from February 2 through March 3; everyone’s participation is welcome and appreciated!
Safety and Security In an effort to address concerns at each church, a Safety Committee is being formed to examine them. Each church will have its own committee who will meet to form a com-prehensive plan and then help to communicate that plan to the congregation. This will be an ad hoc committee with a limited scope that will meet in January and February of 2019. Those with experience in Police/Fire/EMT, mental health counseling, and emergency planning are encouraged to contact Matt Springer at [email protected] for more information.

LATIN MASS: Every Tuesday we have Mass in Latin at 9 AM at St. Cecilia. There are booklets (photo 1) to help walk you through the
Mass. If you’ve never been to this Mass, I encourage you to come and experience Mass in the language of the Church. 1 ADORATION IN PARISHES: Pope Francis said at a recent Thursday morning Mass homily that immersing oneself in silent Eucharistic adoration is the
secret to knowing the Lord. As your pastor I encourage you to become an adorer at one of our parishes. Each parish has Eucharistic adora-
tion (photo 2) — at St. Margaret-St. John on the first Friday of every month at 10:00 AM, at St. Anthony every Thursday at 7:00
PM and at St. Cecilia every Wednesday from 9:30 AM-8:00 PM. Take time this month to come to adoration and spend time
with the Lord. 1 CHOIR PARTIES: We are so blessed in our region with great choirs as well as excellent music directors. In
appreciation for all their extra work, especially during the Christmas season, it has become tradition to
appreciate them at a party that has been held in honor of them. Below are photos of the parties held for
St. Anthony (photo 3) and St. Cecilia (photo 4). 1 THE MOMS GROUP: The Moms Group celebrated
their first-ever Epiphany party (photo 5). Since the Wise Men are traditionally understood to have come
from different continents, families brought international dishes to share so our dinner spread was as uni-
versal as our Catholic faith! There was Italian, Mediterranean, Chinese, Polish, Mexican, Irish and more!
Claudia Corzo McHugh provided us with an authentic Mexican Rosca (photo 6), which is a round fruit
cake or bread that is baked in the shape of a circle with baby Jesus hidden inside. It was a great evening
of fun and food, and the kids enjoyed wearing their crowns! 1 WELCOME, CHILD OF GOD: Caleb
Joseph Francis Thompson, son of Adam and Marie Thompson, was baptized on Friday, January 11, at the
hospital (photo 7). Although baby Caleb is doing as well as to be expected, his parents wanted to have him
baptized right away. Caleb was born in November and will be in the hospital for a little while longer.

Catholic FAQs1) What is the Eucharistic Fast? 2) What is the Epiclesis?
In regards to the Eucharistic fast, Catholics are required to ab-stain from solid food or drink for one hour before Communion. Water and medicine may be taken any time before reception. The sick and aged are required to fast only fifteen minutes. Originally, the Eucharistic fast was from midnight until communion was received. In 1964, Pope Paul VI established the current norms.
The second part of this article addresses a very important part of the Mass called the Epiclesis. The Epiclesis is the part of the Eucharistic Prayer by which the priest invokes the Holy Spirit upon the Eucharistic bread and wine. The laying on of hands by the priest over the bread and wine and the prayer invoking the blessing of the Holy Spirit signifies this point of the Mass. In most churches, the first ringing of the bells also signifies this point of the Mass.
RCIA This WeekPlease pray for all of those journeying to full Communion with the Catholic Church!
This week’s (January 30) RCIA lesson is A WALK THROUGH THE MASS: Exploring the Sacred Liturgy
This session will cover:• How the Mass we celebrate today links back to apostolic
times• The four main sections of the Mass• How we encounter God in the Liturgy of the Word and the
Liturgy of the Eucharist• What we can do to “get more” out of every Mass• Why we must attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of
obligation
Questions for the week: Think about when you go to Mass. Do you come to Mass to receive or to give? What do you do to prepare your soul for Mass?
Sacramentals: Tools for your Spiritual LifeFr. Bob Rottgers, exorcist for the Covington Diocese, will give a talk at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Fort Thomas, KY, on Sunday, February 17, at 7 PM. Included in his talk will be intriguing true stories of the powerful protection of the Epiphany Blessing for your home (instruction kits for the blessing will be given out). Everyone is welcome. No tickets required — a free-will offering will be taken. Questions ... call (859) 441-3438.

33 Days to Morning GloryA 6-week retreat featuring Fr. Michael GaitleyThursdays from February 14-March 25, 2019• 12:30 - 2PM in the rectory meeting space at St. Margaret-
St. John and facilitated by seminarian Louis Jacquemin• 7- 8:30 PM in the St. Cecilia Commons and facilitated by
Fr. Jacob Willig
From Fr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC, author of the bestselling book Consoling the Heart of Jesus, comes an extraordinary 33-day journey to Marian consecration. Featuring the teachings of four giants of Marian spirituality—St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Teresa of Calcutta, and Pope St. John Paul II—Fr. Gaitley shows how simple it is to put Mar-ian devotion into practice.
People’s lives today are often busy and challenging. Stage 1 of the Hearts Afire parish-based program offers individuals a quick and easy way to withdraw from the demands of daily life and enter into a peaceful interior reflection on their relationship with Christ in the context of Marian devotion. We begin with the Immaculate Heart because Mary leads us to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The end result is that, by learning to entrust ourselves to the Mother of Our Lord, we can discover a transforming trust in Jesus himself.
The Serra ClubThe Serra Club is an international Catholic lay apostolate whose mission is to support and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious orders. Saint Junipero Serra, who came from Spain to found the major mission in California, is the patron of the organization.
They are inviting anyone interested in more information
and in possibly becoming a member to a dinner on Feb. 20, 2019, in the undercroft at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral. A social hour will begin at 6 PM followed by dinner at 7 PM. The evening’s speaker will be Judy Cozzens, president of the Serra National Council of the United States.
Contact Jerry Davis at [email protected] for more information on the group and its mission and activities.
