Sunday. June 18 is “Fathers’ Day” You may honor your

Father (living or deceased) in two ways.

1. You may register him for the Memorial Masses that Sunday by using the

special envelope from your regular envelope package.

[If you do not have an envelope, they can be found at the entrances of the church.]

entrances the weekends of June 3 & 8. (You may also contact the rectory to reserve a candle. )

Pentecost Sunday falls this year on May 19. But many people, including Christians, may not know why the day is special or what is celebrated.

Unlike Easter and Christmas, when colorful eggs, Easter bunnies, Christmas trees and Santa Claus are harbingers of the upcoming Christian holidays, there are no such social markers by secular society ahead of Pentecost. For those who need a quick and basic understanding of what Pentecost Sunday is, below is listed 10 things you should know about the holiday. 1. Pentecost Sunday marks the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles. 2. Pentecost Sunday occurs 50 days after Easter. 3. The Bible records the Pentecost in Acts 2:1-13. 4. Pentecost comes 10 days after the Ascension of Jesus Christ. 5. Pentecost is also known as "the birthday of the Church". 6. Pentecost fulfills Jesus' promise to send the "Counselor" and "Spirit of Truth" in John 16-5-15. 7. Pentecost launches the large-scale spreading of the Gospel after Jesus' ascension. Acts 2:41 records that after Peter spoke to the crowd after receiving the Holy Spirit, some 3,000 people were baptized. 8. The Pentecostal movement derives its name from the New Testament event in Acts 2. 9. Jews also celebrate Pentecost, but not for the same reason as Christians. The celebration by Jews of Pentecost is to observe God giving the Ten Com-mandments on Mount Sinai 50 days after the Exo-dus. The Pentecost in Jewish tradition takes place 50 days after Passover. 10. In Western Churches, Pentecost is usually rep-resented with the color red, which symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus

Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to special devotions. The month of

June is set apart for devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. "From among all the proofs of the infinite

goodness of our Savior none stands out more promi-nently than the fact that, as the love of the faithful grew cold, He, Divine Love Itself, gave Himself to us to be honored by a very special devotion and that

the rich treasury of the Church was thrown wide open in the interests of that devotion." These words of Pope Pius XI refer to the Sacred Heart Devotion, which in its present form dates from the revelations given to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673-75. The devotion consists in the divine worship of the

human heart of Christ, which is united to His divini-ty and which is a symbol of His love for us. The aim

of the devotion is to make our Lord king over our hearts by prompting them to return love to Him

(especially through an act of consecration by which we offer to the Heart of Jesus both ourselves and all that belongs to us) and to make reparation for our

ingratitude to God.

W średniowieczu istniał zwyczaj rzucania z sufitu kościoła, w trakcie odprawiania Mszy świętej, róż i innych kwiatów symbolizujących dary Ducha Świętego. W bazylikach i katedrach w czasie uroczystości wypuszczano z klatek gołębie: symbol Ducha Świętego.

Odbity ślad wdzięczny kamieniarz obkuł dokoła i wraz z kamieniem wmurował w zewnętrzną ścianę świątyni. Do dzisiaj można ją oglądać. Do najpilniejszych trosk Jadwigi należało od-nowienie Akademii Krakowskiej.
