The Omaha Community Foundation is celebrating 2010 as its best year ever. Giving to nonprofits doubled between 2009 and 2010. The total for 2010 is $116 million in grants – twice the $57.9 million given in 2009.The significant increase in giving at the Omaha Community Foundation stands in stark contrast to national trends. Giving by community foundations nationwide declined in 2010 by more than 2 percent following a 7.1 percent reduction in 2009.
The Omaha Community Foundation is made up of a community of over 1000 donors who have collectively given over $712 million to more than 3000 charitable organizations since our inception in 1982. We also reached an important milestone in 2010 – our family of donors has given over $1 billion in new gifts to the Foundation. We serve 9 county community foundations in Southwest Iowa that are affiliated with the Foundation. For eight years, we have been nationally recognized in the Philanthropy 400. In 2010, we ranked 4th nationally in per capita giving.
