THE COG – RCM Meeting 1760 (no meeting) Bulletin 31 July 2019

President’s Report

Our club has been busier than usual despite no meeting last week and no meeting this Wednesday 25th July.

RYDA was a resounding success with about 370 year 11 students attending over 2 days.

Most were from Norwood Morialta, but about 30 also came from Charles Campbell College, sponsored by

Campbelltown Rotary. Our club sponsors the Road Safety Education fee for each student to attend, City of

Campbelltown provides The Arc as our venue free of charge, and Geoff Brown’s Newton Veterinary Centre

sponsored the food for volunteers.

RAA provided two facilitators free of charge and volunteers from Campbelltown Rotary, Kiwanis and of course our

own members made it all happen. Sabrina Koetsier did the pre-event planning together with her Youth committee,

Judi Brown was event manager for Tuesday and Bob Pomeroy for Wednesday.

This was an inspiring example of how our club can tackle large community projects by mobilising our friends.

Rotary enables us to achieve worthwhile projects through risk management, affordable insurance and utilising the

skills of our diverse membership.

This was followed by the 10th Anniversary celebration of our Community Workshop.

Councillor Johanna Mc Clusky representing the Mayor, Councillor John Flynn and CEO Paul Di Iullio attended as a

Show the council’s ongoing support.

What an outstanding success has this become? Again our club rose to the challenge of a major community project

that provides companionship as well as a fantastic facility for retired people to pursue woodworking hobbies in a

safe environment. Campbelltown Council provided the land and laid the foundations for this shed and the State

Government assisted with funds for some of the fit-out. However, it was our members who made it happen as well

as other volunteers from our community. President Adel championed the formation of this project and our past

member Wilf Egen used his architectural skills and hobby workshop experience to give form to our dreams.

Barry Illman helped supervise the early years and Kevin Jacka has used his professional skills to manage the

workshop for 6 sessions over 4 days per week. His offer to assist part time for some sessions has become a full time

voluntary position.

Our members play an active role with Graeme Packer, Bob Pomeroy and Alan Cushway with the Community Service

Committee leading this project.

Our club can be proud of the ongoing benefits that this project provides to our community.

Finally, Norwood Morialta Pedal Prix Team was coming second in both men’s and women’s at the 6 hour race in

Victoria Park when I visited this Sunday. They are making good use of the trailer which we sponsored with Norwood

Rotary and it was great to see the teamwork and sheer guts of the racers weaving through the traffic on the tight

criterium track. We have backed a winner here!
