THE COG - RCM Meeting 1659 Bulletin 14 February 2018
From the President: 9/2/2018
Despite the heat, the RCM Club meeting last week was well attended by members, friends and family. Our
guest speaker was Dr. Ian Zajac, a CSIRO Research Scientist and Provisional Psychologist (and son-in law
of our own President Elect, Paul Haylock). Ian works with a variety of industry and other partners on research
projects focussing on substantiating nutritional and dietary interventions for health benefits and has
undertaken large scale research trials focussed on improving health-protective behaviours (e.g., cancer
screening). His presentation on Men’s Health was enlightening and appreciated by all present. It is hoped
that Ian will give a similar presentation to members of the Community Shed later in the year.
Exciting news from Barry Geiger this week, who is co-ordinating the Thorndon Park Miniature Railway
Proposal which he has previously presented to our Club. The Miniature Railway Proposal (Option 3) for the
Railway was approved by Campbelltown Council on 6th Feb. A meeting of "all interested persons" in the
railway will be held at the Council Rooms on Thursday, February 15th at 7.00pm. Barry is particularly
keen to have as many RCM members present as possible to lend support.
Our Club is celebrating the Year of the Dog in style with dinner booked for members and partners at the
Eastern Gardens Restaurant, Norwood Cinema Complex on 28 February. Payment is now due so please
Direct Debit or contact Peter Mayer asap – don’t miss out as it is sure to be a fun night. On another note if
you are planning on attending the Districts 9500 and 9520 Combined Conference (23 – 25 March) you will
need to be quick to register if you haven’t already done so! Standard Registration closes Feb 14th. Visit the
Conference website at http://barossa2018.org.au (includes Registration Link).
A great opportunity awaits those Rotarians who would like the opportunity to meet the World President of
Rotary, Ian Riseley, on 10th March at the Murray Bridge Town Hall commencing at 3pm. Any members who
would like to share a ride to the event please contact me.
With the RCM Board meeting scheduled for 13th February our Club meeting the next evening will be a
Committee night and also Valentines Day. Space has been booked at the Rezz, following the meeting, for
members and any partners or friends who would like to celebrate the day.

Social Day Cruise on the 'One & All' - March 2018
Following a very successful Youth Sailing Experience voyage to Port Lincoln, some Rotary Clubs expressed an interest in taking part in a more relaxed, social, sail for their members and friends on the 'One & All.' The inaugural February twilight cruise proved very popular and booked out quickly, leaving many people disappointed.
We are very happy to announce that another social cruise has been organised on Sunday, March 4th 2018, departing from Port Adelaide at 10:00 am and returning at 3:00 pm. The Day Sail includes delicious on board catering, tea, coffee and cool drinks as we cruise around the Gulf! The cost will be $100 per head, dependent on our filling the ship, which can carry 40 passengers.
Positions on this cruise are now on sale to all Rotarians and their friends.
Please distribute this information around your Club and in your Bulletin. This is an ideal Club social event and you will be supporting an exciting new Rotary Youth program. Book promptly to avoid disappointment! Link to bookings

Community Workshop
This wooden box is full of history and is currently being refurbished at the Community Workshop. It was
brought from Italy with all the posessions of an Italian gentleman and has been handed down through
several generations. The Workshop has be asked to prepare the box to be passed to another son.
On Thursday at the Community Workshop, a special morning tea was held for Workshop member Barry
Illman who recently passed away. It was attended by Barry's wife and family who provided homemade
sausage rolls and other goodies which were enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone who participated
