up and took a bold step to expand their businesses in Cebu founding CMI. Mr. Sumida, also the president of Sumida Industry Corporation-Japan, one of the contractors of Tsuneishi-Japan said that imparting the Japanese working style to Filipinos and transferring the know-how are the missions of the company. The business connection of the two companies paved the way of a successful partnership.

CMI trains workers in Japan through the sending organization of THICI to learn the Japanese working style. Mr. Sumida believes that the best way to train their workers is by emersing them on the work environment for two to three years learning from experts. Once workers completed their training, they will work with CMI for six months and share what they have learned in Japan to their fellow Filipino workers. During

their six months with CMI, their performances are evaluated for training in GRT Paraguay. CMI aims for these trainings to motivate team members to perform outstandingly.

Currently the House of Representatives are in the process of rationalizing everything in terms of entry and plans to to attract more foreign

investors in the country. Also, the congress are debating about the 100% ownership of a foreign company. The group also inquired of Tsuneishi’s satisfaction over the services rendered by he government. Mr. Kono replies that since THI is under PEZA (Philippine Economic Zone Authority), he is more satisfied especially of DG De Lima’s support to the company.

Mr. Kono also raised his concern on the power cost in the Philippines which is comparably higher than that in Japan. He suggested that congress should consider having a special power rate for economic zones.

20 years of world-class workManship

BalaMBan, the “shipBuilding

capital of ceBu”

HON. MAYOR ACE STEFAN BINGHAY

Balamban has rapidly grown into an industrial municipality, what with

the shipbuilding industry located at Buanoy. More than a decade ago, this town was a mere 4th class municipality, but with our determination, coupled with a strong sense of responsibleness and whose vision for Balamban was and is, first and foremost, to uplift the economic life of our people, this once peopled with meager income town has become a multi-faceted 1st class municipality, boasting an internationally-known shipbuilding industry,

thereby opening and giving jobs to thousands of workers from the community to the different municipalities, cities and provinces in the country.

we have a high regard and respect to the authority of

whomever the administration of our National Government, and I believe that we are in the same direction and we are setting goal as of that of the Philippine Government. As a Local Government Unit (LGU), Balamban is very fortunate to be the home of Tsuneishi Group; they are undeniably our partners in

achieving our goals.

changesPrior to becoming an Agro-

Industrial Municipality, the LGU derived its income mainly from agriculture and micro economic activities and number of families relied on fishing and farming as their means of livelihood. Practically, employment is the key to improving the quality of life; this was gradually achieved by most of our town’s people since the onset of the industry in the year 1990. Employment opportunities opened doors to thousands of

Balambanganons. Living conditions obviously augmented; the influx of trade and investments of the town apparently became more dynamic. Honestly, Tsuneishi contributed to a large extent to the development of the town and the people of Balamban. As a matter of fact, we are continually producing more skilled workers each year who have been an asset both in our country and abroad. We are just but proud to balance being both an agricultural and industrial town.

contributionTsuneishi Group has

lived by heart its corporate-social responsibility to the community. You have been one of our links in reaching out to our constituents especially in times of calamity relief campaign, giving of bundles of joy on Christmas season, our generous sponsors to the sports and cultural activities of our athletes/school children, and many others.

influenceI am proud to say that

Balamban has a strong and stable foundation in the aspect of education. The LGU has been in constant

support and in good relation with the teaching force along with its system. Alongside, Tsuneishi inserts its influence by way of its initiative in the construction of additional classrooms and school buildings to some of the public school campuses of the municipality. Also, through the huge income from tax that the LGU has been able to collect from THICI, we are able to provide school supplies to all the public students of the municipality.

The Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education being the key agencies in the implementation of the continuing improvement

of the education system of the country are I think vigorous in attaining their goals and vision. What we can do in our end is to at least provide means to better the learning environment to the school children by way of repairing and repainting of classrooms, construction of additional school buildings and classrooms, providing ceiling fans to at least give comfort to the students and technologies such as computer sets, projectors, etc. to better facilitate learning process. For three years now, the LGU also found a way to help the parents of the school children by providing school supplies to all public school students of the municipality.

I am hoping and expecting that Tsuneishi Group will help us more in our projects in providing better teaching-learning environment to every teacher and student and uplift the education’s condition in our municipality.

in the next 20 yearsTsuneishi will grow beyond

its present development and success; will offer more job opportunities to the people of Balamban; and will always be the LGUs partner in working for the social and economic development of the town; will maintain Balamban’s pride of being known to the world as the shipbuilding capital of the Philippines.
