Bulletin Editor’s Message

My name is Rickan Alleyne and I

am your District Bulletin Editor for

the year 2017-2018. So sit back and

buckle up, we are in for an

exhilarating ride this year.

Another month, another

newsletter. Caribbean-Atlantic

District, are you as excited as I am?

An Overview

Where did the time go?

Summer’s over and that means not

only is it time for school to resume

but also another great year of

service in the CAD!

This year I want all of you to

continue your hard work both in

School and Key Club.

Make sure to look out for your first

Club meeting and invite a friend.

All are welcomed!

Fun Facts

Here are this month’s three fun facts

about me:

I can easily sleep away the

day and still be tired.

My strange addiction …is

watching Dr. Pimple Popper

If I could live life without

leaving my bed, I would.

Yours in Caring and Service,

Rickan Alleyne

Governor’s Message

Greetings Caribbean Atlantic District!

I'm sure that once you all saw this newsletter you must have pondered upon how this month flew by so quickly. I agree.

Unfortunately...or fortunately for some, you had to say "I'll miss you" to summer and "oh..you" to school.

For those who have started school, there's no turning back. Find your motivation and never lose sight of it; make a poster of

it and stick it up on your bedroom wall just to make sure. After all, it is easy to get entangled in all of the work and

miscellaneous tasks we have to do and in the process, we lose sight of why we are doing these things.

On the flip side of the piles of homework, late nights and pop quizzes, at least school resuming means weekly Key Club

meetings and more Key Club in general . Now if nothing else, look forward to those meeting days. These meetings are

opportunities for you to really understand what Key Club entails as well as establish and/or strengthen your passion for

service. Don't take KC meetings lightly because this year, we have a lot in store.

I hate to burst your bubbles but for those who are still enjoying summer, it's soon over and we'll be in the same predicament

as those whose summer ended already. Therefore, don't take what I said above lightly because it will apply to all of us

shortly. For now though, enjoy the last few weeks, think before you act, make caring your way of life and make sure

everyone knows you're a Key Clubber.

Arrivederci!

Yours in Service

Chantal Corbin

Key Tips For School

Welcome Back!

Another year in the Key Club International organization. The first for many and sadly, the last for some.

A summer of sleeping in, fun activities and service projects, and somehow the first day of school has snuck up on us. Without

doubt, the first day will be hectic but you don’t have to be a part of the chaos.

Here are some Key Tips on getting back into the grind:

Be Prepared!

Pack your bag two days beforehand. Create a checklist and ensure you have all your necessary stationery and

paperwork prepared like your pre-printed class schedule.

Be Organized!

Plan ahead and stay ahead by using a calendar or personal schedule on your phone to keep your responsibilities in

order.

Be Confident!

It’s the same school as last year, Don’t Freak Out! The same old faces, some new, few lost. Don’t worry the wolves aren’t

out to get you, you are surrounded by some of your best lifelong friends and teachers who only want you to do your

best.

Stressed?

Your plate too full? Take a moment and get back to your normal, fun self. Use methods like listening to music, talking to

a good friend or your favorite pastime to take your mind off of those stressful situations and go again once you are

good.

Stay Healthy!

Stay in school and away from the doctor by eating your daily dose of fruits and vegetables; not just apples, taking your

vitamins and eating nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A cheat day once in a while is always welcomed.

Halo Movement, Youth Opportunity Fund

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FUND

The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation.

This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. The Youth

Opportunities Fund is established through gifts to the G. Harold Martin Fellowships.

YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the things that need to get done in your school, community or world.

What you need to know:

YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members.

There is one funding cycle for YOF grants per year. Applications are accepted from summer through fall and must be received by

October 15 at 11:59 PM EST. Applications are reviewed by the Key Club International YOF committee at their November meeting.

Clubs may request funding assistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are

asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the

project.

Applicants must use Reviewr, the YOF online grant application. A link is provided on the keyclub.org page. Previous years' applications

and printed paper applications mailed to Key Club International will not be accepted.

Guidelines for submitting a YOF application are listed in the Key Club Guidebook under Board Policies.

YOF grant notification is emailed to all grant applicants the second week of January. Providing correct email addresses on your

application is very important.
